If you canít beat them Womens Adrian Phillips Jersey , join them."o Chargers Daily LinksSan Diego Chargers NewsSan Diego Chargers OffseasonSan Diego Chargers HistorySan Diego Chargers HumorBFTB EditorialsHow the Rams Super Bowl helps the ChargersNew,46commentsIf you canít beat them, join them.PSTShareTweetShareShareHow the Rams Super Bowl helps the ChargersSame but DifferentFlashback to the Spring of 2017, and the Rams and Chargers find themselves in comically similar situations. Both franchises had recently returned to the city of Los Angeles, a city they each had called home at another point in their respective historyís. Both teams had just hired first time head coaches, coming off seasons where neither won more than five games. Both squads solved their problem at left tackle, locking up Andrew Whitworth and Russell Okung. Both teams franchise tagged defensive bookends in Trumaine Johnson and Melvin Ingram. Both even had starting first-round running backs from the same draft class that still canít outperform their backups. It appeared that the city of Los Angeles had acquired two teams moving in the right direction, but still full of as many questions as answers. The ďFight for LAĒ felt more like a media-driven facade that would take years to come to fruition than a premier battle of league heavyweights. Sure, the first joint practice concluded with actual fighting: but all signs pointed to this race being more of a marathon than a sprint. Welp.Flash forward to the present day, and while the tortoise has made up significant ground, the hare is crossing the finish line. After starting their career 3-6, the Chargers under Anthony Lynn have impressively won 19 of their last 25 games. The only problem is the Rams under Sean Mcvay have gone 26-9 Drew Kaser Jersey , with 2 playoff wins and a Coach of the year award already to his name. The hare hasnít stopped sprinting since the starting gun sounded. And thatís okay, because the Rams success does not hinder the Chargers, nor should it be viewed as negative. The City of LAThe Rams playing in the Super Bowl is huge for the city of Los Angeles and its interest in football. LA is a different beast of a market to break into. A city that has nine other professional sports teams to cheer for has never really needed a football team, let alone two. Per ESPN, the 2017 and 2018 Rams had the 31st ranked home attendance by capacity. While the Chargers data is largely skewed due to playing in a 20,000-seat soccer stadium, they by far had the lowest home attendance by number of people in those years. The mocking of the Chargers home stadium situation is just; however, the Rams arenít even keeping up with the Cleveland Browns in terms of attendance. Rams Success is Chargers SuccessNot only are the Rams setting a benchmark for the Chargers to strive for, their success amplifies the current rivalry of the two teams. In fact, one could even argue the Rams being bad as an even worse scenario.LA is a city of entertainment, bright lights, and story lines. The people of Los Angeles need a Yankees vs Red Sox style rivalry in their own backyard to get excited about football. In an interview with NBC Sports http://www.thechargerslockerroom.com/authentic-hunter-henry-jersey , Melvin Gordon stated that he ďneeded the Rams to lose.Ē Instead of rooting for the Rams to fail, realize that The Chargers are in the news on Super Bowl weekend because of the Rams. The media cares about what the third best running back on the Chargers has to say on Super Bowl weekend, and that is easily the most important takeaway from all of this.If the Rams win Super Bowl 53, the Chargers will have their work cut out for them in claiming an LA fan-base, but at least there will be a fan base to claim. You guys donít mind me smashing two days of coverage together, right?"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections San Diego Chargers Daily LinksSan Diego Chargers NewsSan Diego Chargers OffseasonSan Diego Chargers HistorySan Diego Chargers HumorSenior BowlLatest NewsLos Angeles Chargers NewsSenior Bowl: Winners and Losers of Day 2/3New,13commentsYou guys donít mind me smashing two days of coverage together, right?PSTShareTweetShareShareSenior Bowl: Winners and Losers of Day 2/3Mike Granse-USA TODAY SportsWith inclement weather taking a lengthy nap over the city of Mobile yesterday, the second round of practices were moved to the indoor facilities at South Alabama University. This meant that, due to limited parking and space inside the bubble, media was not allowed to attend while all 32 NFL clubs were only allowed two members to attend practice. Thanks to technology, however Womens Joe Barksdale Jersey , media members were able to re-watch practice in order to help us not skip a beat in coverage. The second day was filled with some of the same play-makers showing out, some new faces taking a leap forward, and a number of players continuing to struggle at the all-star showcase. As I had to head back home from Mobile this morning, I was unable to attend the third day of practice but I do not want to use that as an excuse to leave you guys without the content you deserve. Combined with some word-of-mouth from some of my very good friends who were in attendance all week, Iím here to deliver a Winners/Losers recap from the last two days.Letís check them out.WinnersDT Renell WrenWren raised his draft stock when he came in to weigh-ins on Tuesday at 315 pounds. He has been listed at 295 which some have thought was slightly too light for someone at his position. Even at 315, Wren maintains a lean frame and hasnít lost a bit of that explosion that earned him some publicity in 2018.Wren getting the chance to go up against two of the best centers here, NCSTís Garrett Bradbury and A&Mís Erik McCoy, has definitely allowed evaluators the chance to see Wren at his best this week.RB Dexter WilliamsWilliams has been the brightest prospect among the running backs this week and I donít think it has been particularly close. The former-Notre Dame back has shown excellent burst through holes while continuously attacking the line of scrimmage like his life depends on it. Every time Jon Gruden called a zone run play, Williams took full advantage. And at 215 pounds, heís not too shabby of a route-runner out of the backfield, making NCSTís Germaine Pratt freeze on an option route during 1-on-1 drills.WR Terry McLaurinMcLaurin enjoyed an above-average career with the Buckeyes but was usually overshadowed by bigger names on the team like WR Parris Campbell, and RBs Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins. All McLaurin has done this week is fly by defenders and make difficult grabs look a little bit easier than usual. Most of his reps looked similar to this:McLaurin has shown a real knack for setting defenders up for failure Casey Hayward Jersey , and in turn, him for success. While displaying his ability to be a deep threat, McLaurin can also shake-and-bake when he chooses to, as well. All heís done this week is make money, and people are really starting to raise him up their respective boards.LosersOT Max ScharpingScharping wasnít a guy I expected much out of this week and I couldnít have been more correct in my prior assertion. Scharping has yet to stand out in anyway, consistently getting pushed back and handled in 1-on-1ís where he has a horrible tendency of retreating immediately in his pass sets which puts him far behind the eight ball before anything actually happens. His feet lumber far too much for a left tackle and he makes one wonder if a transition to guard is in his future. Either way, thereís always one or two players who donít look like they belong at the Senior Bowl, and I think Scharping is that guy this year.QB Trace McSorelyMcSorely got one of the later invitations to the Senior Bowl, despite much of the scouting community disagreeing with his inclusion. Number 9 was a winner at Penn State but he obviously lacks the coveted height most clubs would prefer in their passer. Also doesnít help that McSorely lacks the passing capabilities needed to make up for being as vertically challenged as he is.Itís been a rough week for many of the quarterbacks here. McSorely, along with guys like Will Grier and Gardner Minshew, have struggled mightly. If he has had anything going for him this week, heís still managed to show-off his athleticism as heís made a handful of plays with his feet.In the end http://www.thechargerslockerroom.com/authentic-melvin-ingram-jersey , though, Iím not sure he has done much of anything to move the meter on his current draft stock.DE Byron CowartCowart was a former 5-star recruit that initially committed and played at Auburn for the first two seasons of his career. After things werenít working out as he would have liked, he transferred to the University of Maryland where he tried to finish his collegiate career on the highest note possible.Well, heís here at the Senior Bowl and thatís got to stand for something right?Eerily similar to his time at Auburn, it hasnít looked like his time in Mobile is panning out any better. Cowart has spent most of the showcase looking confused, usually in 1-on-1s against the offensive linemen. Every time it seemed like he was content with just rushing the passer with no real strategy made, beforehand. No swim-move. No stab-and-chop. No nothing.Maybe Cowart needs a chat with the other former 5-star, Daylon Mack, while heís here.
