appears, when trying to load MP3Tag Studio.
Also a similar message when closing.

What went wrong? How can I repair that?

I did already an reinstall (Repair), but that wasn't working.

I can do a complete uninstall and install, but than my settings will be gone....

That message appears when the Mp3/Tag Studio main datafile has been corrupted somehow. This file is named "mp3ts.dat", and is located in your Mp3/Tag Studio installation folder. To reset this file, simply delete it (while Mp3/Tag Studio is not running), and then start Mp3/Tag Studio again. Sadly, as you say, this means that your settings will be lost, but if the datafile containing the settings has become corrupted, there's not much else you can do. :(

I'm not sure what the corruption might have come from in your particular case though, there are no known problems with the datafile getting corrupted withough external factor involvement. If you find out anything more about what might have corrupted it, please report it here.

thank you for letting me post without registering, thank you for making such an incredibly customizable tagger...

now, i've been able to recreate this problem easily sometimes by just starting two instances of the tagger, the second one usually says that error and doesnt show any of the saved settings, and then possibly writes those settings to disk, when i exit it, which means those settings are "gone" from any subsequent runs.

ofcourse now i have learned not to open two sessions, but it happens sometimes.

also, i'm using 3.05 unregistered that i downloaded few months back, i came looking for an update, the sad thing is the program doesnt tell me which beta version i have, which may mean i do not have a beta version (in any case, i will update, since i just accidentally opened 2 sessions and lost my settings, i should really backup next time i know).

Thanks for your input, yes, opening/closing two Mp3/Tag Studio sessions at the same time could cause problems with one of the sessions locking the data file for the other one.

The full version information of your Mp3/Tag Studio copy, including beta status, can always be seen in the about box. The version currently in beta is 3.5, the older 3.05 version is not in beta at all.
