Specifically I wonder if there might not be another solution that is easier for users and will be more difficult for Magnus to implement. Heheh   One of the applications that I use (FlashFXP) has an interesting feature: when one right-clicks on local files the menu has, in addition to the usual FTP functions, an "Explorer menu..." option. When clicked, the popup menu changes to the regular shell menu - the one you would see if you  right-clicked within Windows Explorer. It's very handy and does not require toggling between windows. Even options that are not that sophisticated could be welcome additions to the MP3TS right-click menu. 2 that I can think of: "load list" to switch to the 'Tag/rename from list' tab and use the  right-clicked file. And "Execute" to run things like sfv or par files. Usually when I make suggestions like these, Magnus comes back and says "You can already do that... RTFM". (Actually he's much more polite than that). We'll see what he says   Back to top

Simply go into the extended settings of the browse tool (in the global settings) and RTFM from there. I'll think about the "load list" suggestion... Anyway, the new super killer feature I'm working on right now (I have currently been programming non-stop for the last 13 hours) will be a generic solution to LOTS of problems, making the program even more super generic than it is today, and should also end all other taggers if my estimations are correct (I might include world peace into it if I have enough time too). (i.e. if people would just get to hear about it, damn it really sucks that I could probably make much more money from investing all my time in advertising instead of programming, but that's really boring so screw that anyway). -------------- Software author and website owner Back to top

Rasmus Kristensen Unregistered Posted: July 13 2003,03:07 Disposable Hero: The reason i came to think of this little thing was that i needed to open a mp3 file in winamp...so i copied the directory path from Mp3 Tag studio --> start --> run etc..... I just thought it would be easier if there was a small button (perhaps right under the Browse button ) that would open the directory for me (o boy im lazy ) I've just installed v. 3, so im not quite aware of all the new functions yet - if understand things right, im able to add a "Play file in winamp"-command to the right-click menu inside mp3tag studio? All this thinking just made me aware of another feature (that probably is a bit harder to make   ) - i will try to explain: When im done with fixing the tags, renaming files etc. i usually move the files to my "archive". Would it be possible to make a function that copies/moves the current workdirectory to another location? I would be nice if you could click somewhere (another button perhaps   ) and the files would be moved to eg: "c:\music\<artist>\<album>" Hope i've explained things good enough and please don't flame me too much if the function allready exists (only medium roated pls) - Rasmus Kristensen PS: Looking forward to world peace Magnus   Back to top

Disposable Hero Old Board Geezer Group: Super Moderators Posts: 188 Joined: Aug. 2002 Posted: July 13 2003,04:07 Magnus - heh, I knew about adding custom commands to the browse tool's right-click menu in theory, but since I keep the "Show all filetypes" box unchecked... So it is already in there, naturally    Looking forward to the upgrade, though it sounds more apocalyptic than peaceful Rasmus - whenever I need to listen to an mp3 from Tag Studio, I just double-click it in the Browse/Edit list. That should open it in your default mp3 player. Also, do check out the "Add dir" button available on several of the naming and tagging tabs, and have a look at the help file pages about this. Specifically the "Advanced operation mode for auto rename" section of the help file appears to address what you're trying to achieve. Back to top

Rasmus Kristensen Unregistered Posted: July 13 2003,12:24 Hehe, i can see i haven't even seen half of the new functions yet - thanks for the information Disposable Hero   I can't help it, but another idea just came up (probably already exists, but what the h...): How about a search function that checks if a file's filename corresponds to its id3-tag? Then it would be easy to spot those files with wrong names.....or maybe im just babbling here   As far as i can see, the built-in search function can check if the two versions of id3 tags are identical or not, but I think if would be nice to be able to check filenames too (if it is already possible, please hit me in the head with a HUGE hammer) Another small thing: when i start mp3 tag studio the icons on my desktop flashes a couple of times - is it a bug....or perhaps a neat little disco effect feature, eh Magnus? Files that are already named right will not show up in the preview window, and hence, the preview window will contain a nice list of all the files that were not named right to begin with. And I can't find my huge hammer at the moment, so you're off the hook for now. About the disco effects, it is a known "problem", but I was not able to easily remove it when looking at it earlier. Hopefully people won't suffer too much from some extra disco in their lives anyway. And yes, you can add a "Play file in Winamp", "Play file in Media Player", "Play file in Microsoft Excel" and whatever you like to the right-click menu, both the one inside Mp3/Tag Studio and the Explorer shell extension menu. -------------- Software author and website owner Back to top

Mumboz Board Newbie Group: Members Posts: 1 Joined: July 2003 Posted: July 14 2003,13:00 When i name mp3 files i usually name them like "<artist> - <trackname>" (if no track number is available) or  "<tracknumber> - <artist> - <trackname>" (with a track number). Can the auto rename tool check for a tracknumber, and if present add it to the name and if not leave it out? As far as i can see it currently adds a "-" if the tracknumber field is empty. - Rasmus Kristensen Back to top

Simply do one rename sweep with the first template, and tell the filter to only process files without tracknumbers, and then do a second sweep with the second template and tell the filter to only process files having a tracknumber. As you can see, it will require two sweeps, but stuffing unnecessarily much functionality into single sweeps would only make the program overly complex. Anyway, soon that won't be a problem anymore though (i.e. it's another problem that will be gone with the new killer feature)... -------------- Software author and website owner Back to top
