I do all "serious" tag editing in Tagstudio but occasionally while a song is playing in Winamp I'll add a comment via the alt 3 panel. It appears to display correctly and save the tag as expected. Later I noticed in tagstudio a T appended to all fields, or occasionally a C, and the comment field disappeared. I thought this was the return of an old problem I had years ago but this time it's certainly Winamp, including latest version 5.33.
Fortunately Tagstudio found all the damaged files by making a list filtered by comment = empty, and I replaced them with those from a back up drive.

Sorry I posted too hastily. Just dicovered a setting in winamp which used not to be there. "Read Tags as System Language"
"Write Tags as Unicode"
I changed to "Write tags as System Language" and all is well again.
Not really relavent to this forum, just that the fault is visible with Tagstudio.

Hey Tony, actually, older versions of Mp3/Tag Studio (e.g. 3.05) display unicode encoded tags incorrectly, adding this "T" to some fields. Simply upgrade to the latest 3.5 beta, and the problem will be gone!

Hi,

I have a similar problem. Several of my tags have had T appended to them. I'm not sure exactly why. It shows up on my ipod and is really ugly. I use winamp, but don't think that all the T's come from here as there are quite a lot of titles with this appended (more than I would edit manually in winamp.) In the affected tags, almost every field is affected, even genre and trk nr.

Is there any way of getting rid of them without doing them all by hand. Why has it happened. Will adjusting anything in winamp help? I have a little knowledge of computers, but dont really understand anything about unicode. I am using version 3.05.

Thanks anyone who can help,

If I understand Magnus correctly these tags are not really corrupt, they are written in unicode which some programs read incorrectly. These include the TagStudio 3.05 version which you are using. If you get latest version it can read the unicode tags correctly, but it writes tags in non unicode whatever that's called. So if you retag, with latest version all other programs and devices will read tags correctly.
I can see this is effective because I use a winamp plugin called cover and tag. This displays garbage for some songs (unicode tags), after resaving the tag with Tagstudio 3.5 it displays correctly.
Latest Winamp v5.33 writes tags in unicode, which also helps to mess things up. Setting is well hidden away. It's in settings / Plugins, input, Nullsoft MPEG audio decoder, configure, title/tags. Change to write in system language.
