-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: after installing xp sp2 final mp3ts didn't start started by MP3 Tag Studio still not running Posted by: MP3 Tag Studio still not running on Aug. 16 2004,04:08 I still have this problem with the latest beta 7, which I installed after deinstalling the previous 3.05. I also have running Spybot which is has an immunize-feature which blocks advertising and such things. I didn't use the immunize-feature now. Also no similar settings used in Ad-Aware. I have allowed mp3ts to be an exception to the xp firewall-settings, I've allowed it to run without something called like "file execution blocking" (I have a german version but that won't help you how it's called here) within the system's settings... looks like everything's ready to run this great program - but it won't. I've also deleted the dat-file in mp3ts-directory and used the final SP2 of Windows XP... any idea what I can try, too? Thanks a lot! Matthias Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 16 2004,13:27 Very strange, there were some problems earlier with this (discussed in < this thread >), but they seemed to have been solved by Microsoft in SP2 RC2, but then maybe the problems are back in the final version of SP2? Very strange, I will have to look into it, but please see that thread above for more info too. Is there anyone who has gotten Mp3/Tag Studio to run with the final version of Windows XP SP2? Posted by: Matthias on Aug. 16 2004,14:49 Hi! I've read all the thread and had that problem with SP2 RC1, too... but somehow I could solve it (don't remember how)... Hopefully I'm not the only one with this problem. One idea: Which port does the advertising feature using in the unregistered version? Maybe I can try to unblock this port, but it shouldn't be needed. But if not the mp3ts_s.exe (?) is the program which makes the connection to the ads, this could be a solution... Thanks in advance - I really like your tool!!! Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 16 2004,17:19 There are no internet connections or communcation of any kind from Mp3/Tag Studio. The banner in the unregistered version is a static image, promoting one of my other programs (the AudioTron banner in the older versions is a only static image too, also without any kind of internet communication), so that can't be the problem. As discussed in that other thread (and yet another one on this board I think), it is more likely a problem with the new memory protection implementation in SP2, and that is what most other programs have problems with too. And don't worry, you're not alone with this problem, and Mp3/Tag Studio is definitely not alone with the problem either. Below is a link to a list on Microsoft's site, listing hundreds of programs that breaks under SP2 (final), including a large number of high profile products, out of which 50 or so are from Microsoft themself... ![]() < http://support.microsoft.com/default....wsxpsp2 > Posted by: Matthias on Aug. 16 2004,18:33 Yeah, I read that freaky list, too... unbelievable a Service Pack with such "problem-making" was really released... So hopefully you can again fix this creepy microsoft-made problem with your unbeatable tool ![]() Greetings! Matthias Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 16 2004,19:35 Yeah, I'll take a look at it. The problem is, as discussed earlier, that the problematic code is out of my control, rather being in the protection wrapper (Asprotect), which could cause problems for fixing this, but in the worst case I'll have to abandon this protection wrapper for something else I guess. Posted by: MelTraX on Aug. 16 2004,21:35 Hi.. Ich habe seit gestern das Final SP2 drauf. Tag Studio lief wunderbar, bis ich es registriert habe. Seitdem lädt es wieder nicht.. Hoffe das hilft, das Problem zu finden.. Posted by: MelTraX on Aug. 16 2004,21:38 Hmm.. Well, second time reading this thread I realized it's in english ![]() so, once again in english: I installed the final release of Service Pack 2 last night and one of the first programs was your Studio.. All went well until I registered it. Since that it crashes at every launch once again.. Hope this information helps in any way.. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 17 2004,01:10 Thanks for the info, this confirms even more that it is related to a certain feature of the Asprotect wrapper. I will try to get a new version out for you to test in SP2 soon, please stay tuned (it will be very useful for you to register on this messageboard, since you will then be notified by email of all new posts in this thread, when I announce the new test version for example). end |
