Howdy all. Been using MP3TS for ages and it seems nowadays (since i've cleaned my collection) i only tag new stuff which generally means simply using the windows shell 'rename from tags'. I'd love to have genre and potentially even year functionality in the windows shell menu; i was thinking that both could be available both when right clicking a file/files and ALSO when right clicking folders in windows explorer. I would have thought that this would be pretty easy to implement as well. Cheers

Dez,
Magnus is away on holiday at the moment... he's due back in the next day or so.
No doubt, he'll pop by and respond to your request when he does.

Dez, you can add any templates you like to the shell menu yourself, by simply saving them inside the tool in question inside Mp3/Tag Studio (in your case the auto rename tool). You do this by using the little "plus" button to the right of the template field. The stored templates will be available in the drop down box of the template box, and also in the shell extension menu.

Righty, liking the templates idea (which i didn't know about before) but i don't think it covers what i mean (but i may well be wrong). What i'm looking for is this kinda thing, for setting the genre tags on a whole folder or individual files without needing to go into mp3tg. likewise with year.

sorry for the big ugly picture and the slow geocities load time, haha. 3:-)
Does this seem do-able? I would assumed it would have to be added by you but after seeing the shell adjustable templates i've suspended disbelief!
Cheers man
Dez

You can creates macros for any operation you like e.g. "Set genre to house", and then execute them from the shell extension. In this way you can extend the shell extension yourself with arbitrarily complex operations.

And about "Ace of Base", there was actually a very famous Swedish group with this name in the 90's. :) (http://www.aceofbase.com)

Marcus, cheers for the info dude, all sorted now. And Ace of Base, i know who they are, i just tend to get a lot of stick about having it in the collection, since they're seriously uncool!  :p
