After using MP3/Tag Studio for a few days, I was unable to enter data into the comment field for any file.  I could not even position the cursor in the entry box.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and now it works again.

I'm using 3.05 in Win XP Pro.

Outstanding program, Magnus!

Sounds really strange. Was this in the browse tool, or some of the other tools? What happened when you clicked the comment field, did the cursor stay in its current text field, or what?

The problem has surfaced again.  It is in the browse tool, and yes, the cursor stays in the field it was in.  A right click in the comment field produces the edit context menu, with "Casefix this field" at the top.  All other fields are okay.  Might it have something to do with this being a memo field.

By the way, is there any way to view the comment field as a note?

As I said before, extremely strange. I cannot rule out the possibility that the problem is in some way related to, and local to, your system. Never heard about anything like this before, and I cannot imagine what might cause it. :(

What do you mean by "note"?

Yes, it could very well be a glitch with my system.  I'll see if I can isolate it.

By "note" I mean a multi-line window, like the edit window I'm using to write this.  Maybe I'm missing something, but I only see a single line, with scroll buttons.

The comment field is already a multi-line window, it's just that it happens to be only one row in height in the GUI, but as you say, you can scroll between the lines using the scroll buttons to its right.

:) Hello again.

I have also come across this problem with the comment field. Nothing is visible (including the cursor) but when I have clicked in the field and typed something, the text is entered, but it still does not show. The field is working ok and the text is really entered it's just this visibilty in the actual field thing. If I rename a file using the comment field I have just typed something into it works and shows the comment text in the file name.

I am, by the way, using Windows XP Pro (in case that matters)

I also have to mention the height of the comment field. I know it has the scroll arrows, but I find it quite annoying and fiddly to be honest.    I like everything to be on display so I can see exactly what is where and has been entered at all times. (see my other post regarding displaying both V1 & V2 tags at the same time for instance).

I would also like to see fields in the GUI actually only as long as what the input allows. I like to keep my tags (both V1 & V2) synced if I can but on some long names this is not possible but I do not want to shorten both types as I only really shorten the necessary V1 as my main useage is V2 so I keep that as complete and descriptive as I can.

I think seeing and being able to edit both onscreen together would be tremendously helpful and more appealing than having to click on buttons or press hot keys to switch tag versions all the time. Just a thought, what do you reckon?

While I still rate MP3 Tag Studio as the best out there, these are a couple of things I would like to see tweaked  if possible :)

The comment field problem seems to be simply that a too large font will make the text disappear (if it is too big to make even one text row fit into the field). Try to make the font smaller (from the global program settings), and it should work fine again. Are you using the default font settings when this happens?

I ran into this when I switched to XP from 2000. I didn't play around with the font or sizing after installation. I did some testing and it turned out that things were being entered into the comment box (happened in Browse and in Mass Set tabs) and were being applied to the files, I just couldn't see them. The font was set to Trebuchet, 8 points.

The fix was to switch to a different font in MP3TS options. I'm partial to Tahoma, but most of the other fonts that I tried work fine. So no more Trebuchet  :)

Hi,

Yes, my problem was the same as disposable hero's above (only I put it in about a million more words and a lot unclearer  :( )

I too, did not change the default settings, but have changed it now after reading the above, and it does indeed work. However, I would still like to see the comment field expanded to more than just one line high - Go on Magnus, Please.... :)  :)

Hmm, when I come to think of it, the problem might be due to the fact that the default font for those boxes is "Times New Roman", and maybe this font is not installed with the operating system, but rather with the MS Office package which in turn everyone doesn't necessarily have? Could everyone having this problem please check if they have the "Times New Roman" font installed on their system or not, and report back here?

About the multi-line comment field, there is one in the "Advanced ID3v2 info" box. I think it's sorta clumsy to have a comment field that's the same size as the other fields combined in the main GUI. :(

Me again,
(oh no I here Magnus say  :D )

Have been fooling around with some settings and I think the type of font for the comment field does not seem to be as important as the size. Varying the font made a difference, but I think this was because some fonts are bigger (or smaller) than each other even though they have the same font size number.

Fair point too Magnus about the extended info box for ID3V2 comment field. I will probably have this open as it shows the whole (?) of the field, so I can see what may (may not be there) at a glance.

Looks like I will be registering this weekend then. The program is pretty much all I need it to be (and of course much more too).

Keep up the good work, and thanks for the prompt forum replies.  :D
