+---Topic: 3.5 Beta 22 Expired started by LemonSqueezy

Posted by: LemonSqueezy on Oct. 01 2013,01:25

Well ... v3.5 Beta 22 has expired. I'm assuming 1st-Oct-2013 is the hard-coded date. In order to use it until a fix/patch is made, I have to change my system's date.

Hopefully, this is a really simple change to your code and a recompile :)

Posted by: ozium60 on Oct. 02 2013,06:04

I hope there is a fix soon too. Not only has the beta demo expired, but I then have to force quit with task manager to quit the app.
Posted by: jbond on Oct. 02 2013,10:09

+1 for extending the Beta expiry date. And ideally, just produce a Beta 23 that never expires. Please!

If this never gets fixed has anyone found any alternative program that's anywhere near as good?

Posted by: edje2011 on Oct. 05 2013,00:49

with some modifications you're still able to use the older versions like 2.17
Posted by: PMH on Oct. 06 2013,09:53

I'm also hoping for a version without time limit!
Posted by: jbail31 on Oct. 06 2013,12:46

Is there any chance of Magnus giving us a version that won't expire?
Posted by: PMH on Oct. 08 2013,11:11

I'm currently using version 3.05 without time limit in a windows XP virtual machine.
Hopefully Magnus will answer soon and produce a unlimited version...

I came here for the same reason. I also wish that if this project is abandoned, the source could be released or at least transferred to someone else - at least for maintenance.
Posted by: paw on Oct. 10 2013,18:47

Hi I'm here for the same reason too.
Magnus if you are still looking in here please, please can we just have a 3.5 version with the time limit removed.
I would just carry on using 3.05 but that does not have the macro options which I use all the time.

If anyone else has a workaround for this please let me know.

Many Thanks

I've been using this program since dirt was new. Sadly I find that Magnus seems to have abandoned it. With the expiration problem I may well have to find another program, but this one is truly my choice.

Magnus, please wake up and provide us with at LEAST a Beta23 with no time limit on it.

OK. I got 3.5 b22 working, on a 64bit Win 7.

Set calendar back to September 1
Install software
Set compatability to Windows XP SP3
Do the usual tricks to get to the registration screen. BE PATIENT! mine took a couple of minutes to pop up, then a bit more after I typed in the magic stuff.
Enter name
Enter Reg.
Exit program.
Start it up again to make sure all is well.
Exit again.
Reset calendar to current date.

This worked for me. YMMV.

It will only expire for non-licensed users, and since you are supposed to purchase a license after 30 days of trial usage (even though there is no "hard" enforcement of this) this problem should not affect so many people.

Also, I thought it would be interesting to see the reactions from people who use the unlicensed version. :)

I will release a new extended beta version, but all of you who have already used the program for more than 30 days, please purchase a license anyway, since that's the right thing to do. :)

Posted by: Dave on Oct. 14 2013,23:26

Except that I was installing it on a new computer, the old one having been retired due to being MUCH older than dirt.

Imagine my surprise when I tried to fire up a fresh download so I could install my legit registration....

It's still an excellent program. And since I found a way around the problem, no sweat.

Dave, since all license related questions should be taken via email and not in this forum, and you obviously own a license that you wanted to transfer to another computer, all you'd have to do was to email me and let me know if you had any problems with this particular operation.

It actually does not necessitate the trickery you mention above.

Non-licensed user here, but I don't own a credit card and I don't live in the US (Netherlands!!;)), so I can't buy a licensed copy. (That's why there is a version with ads right? On the download page, nor in the faq I can read anything about a 30 day trial? edit: ah, the 'why you should register and what you get for doing it' page! ) I really love MP3 tag studio and I haven't updated my music collection for 16 days, because the tool doesn't work anymore! (And I don't want to screw up my collection with files with messed up tags) It's all unsorted in a temporary folder... Please release an update or at least a version that isn't expired!

@Rinus below, iDeal, yes, but not for Dutch banks

Ok Magnus, your wish is my command

Another unregistered crazy user here, which clicks everytime on the banners as you put it in the helpfile. :) Quote:

"Finally, although you really should register the program if you like to continue using it after 30 days, there are no actual restrictions built into the program. It is fully possible to keep using it forever without registering, with full access to every feature of the program. The only thing is that you have to put up with that advert window then, and also your conscience will burden you for taking advantage of the kindness and hard work of this poor guy. :-) But if you are really poor and can't afford the $19, then I forgive you and you only have to put up with the adverts, not the conscience part. :-)

To sum it up: if you don't pay for it, at least click the banners like crazy, ok? :-)"

I've been happily using this program on my old XP box for ages. However since there where no updates for the last 2 years I was thinking you abandoned Mp3/Tagstudio.

As the current version i'm using is still a Beta version, I see no point in paying for it. Version 3.05 does have serious issues for me (the option rename tags from filename, messes up the tags with "T" 's randomly) probably fixed in the beta as I do not have this issue there.

For the fellow Dutchmen above me.. there is also an option to pay by bank (iDEAL)

However I do not agree in paying 18.71 EUR!! because you state the registration is 19 USD.

This morning I ordered something on ebay and Paypal converted 1 EUR = 1,30775 USD. meaning that 19USD 19/1,30775) =   14.529 EUR! I feel like being ripped of 4EUR then. Not saying this is up to Magnus, but it is quite strange.

So just to be clear... Does purchasing a license enable the 3.5 version or only the 3.05?
Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 27 2013,03:09

Yes, all versions will be enabled by purchasing a license (although 3.05 still isn't compatible with Windows 7 or above, so 3.5 is the way to go).

Hi there

I used to be a long time (years) non paying user of mp3ts

Like you all, I got frustrated (to say the least) when I found out that there was no new version of mp3ts
I spend days trying to find another similar utility, but I could not find anything as good: what I found was either lacking the functionality I need, absolutely not user-friendly, or even contained virus and other funny things...

As far as I'm concerned, lesson learned: when such an utility is so important to you and not expensive, then by all means, BUY IT !

@Magnus: Keep on the good job!

PS: NO, I'm not connected to Magnus in any way, this is just truly what I feel

Thanks for the kind words and your support. :)
Posted by: thwgt on Nov. 23 2013,20:22

Thanks for the clarification. I too will be purchasing a license.

So ... just asking ... 5 months later .. where are we with this?

PS: I hope you got some needed income for the hours of coding due to the expiration.

PPS: I know (from a programmer's perspective) that you probably haven't looked at the code for a while, and in fact may not even use the language any more and may be "rusty" - but ...

... could you look at the function(s) that search and replace for file naming - my list is fairly extensive (500+), and the code takes ages (3 to 5 seconds) to load and rename, which doesn't sound like much - but when I use it on a folder by folder basis (windows explorer open on one monitor, mp3ts on the other with the tree directory) and I have several hundred folders ... you get the idea :)

Nothing wrong with a time-limited demo IF it checks for the presence of the registration data and does NOT terminate if that is valid.

I registered in 2000 or 2001. Long time? yes. Still prefer this tagger? Yes.

Hi!
I had to reinstall windows and i found that the last version expired!
I can't get it to work :(
Sent an email today to magnus, 'cause I think that the project is dead... That's sad 'cuase it's the best program i've ever seen!
Any of you have any news or can recommend another program???

Posted by: PMorris on Nov. 07 2014,18:32

Magnus,

I'm another long time user stuck with a non-functioning copy of MP3 Tag Studio after upgrading computers... I've sent a couple of emails to you but don't seem to have gotten a response...

Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 10 2015,01:32

Sorry for any late email replies, please remind me if you still haven't received a reply after a few days after emailing me.

Hi Magnus, are you still planing to update the software to make it work on windows 7 8 10?
I want to buy a license, but I need to know if it will work or not...

Thanks!

Is this program dead or what?  Will it ever get out of beta?  There has been no 'official' word from the author in a very long time.
end
