-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Bookmark Converter Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Synchronize two computers? started by cmbiii Posted by: cmbiii on Aug. 05 2004,02:22 I have a desktop and a laptop that normally sit in different rooms of my house, but when I travel I take the laptop along. They form a 2-computer network using a Linksys router, through which they share a broadband connection. I use both Mozilla and IE6 as browsers on both machines - usually Mozilla but sometimes I need IE. I assume Bookmark Converter will transfer bookmarks/favorites between these two browsers on a single computer. Will it also allow transfer (or better, synchronization) between the desktop and laptop computers? I can't tell for sure just by reading the descriptions I've found, and I didn't see this subject covered in the forum. Thanks for any info. Cheers, Kip Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 06 2004,01:08 It will work as long as the following conditions are true: 1. The synchronization is always performed from the same computer (or Bookmark Converter is installed on a commonly shared network drive, in that case it can be performed from the computers interchangeably). 2. The computer from which the sync is performed has all the bookmark files of the other computer reachable as mapped drives. 3. You have two licenses for Bookmark Converter, since you are then using it on two computers. ![]() Posted by: Dracula on Sep. 19 2004,22:59 cmbiii, I was looking for a solution to the same problem but between my work computer and home computer with the requirement to work via HTTP proxies, etc. I found this service < http://www.sync2it.com > which for $10 / yr. is not bad at all, it also make your bookmarks available (and editable) via the Web. Note that the Sync2It client is not perfect yet, it has issues with Firefox 1.0 (but so does BMC 3.1) You should give that service a try, they have a 90-days trial. Also the client and server are open source so you can install them and run your own server yourself: < http://sourceforge.net/projects/bookmarksync > end |
