I have a directory of over a hundred files, a couple dozen have long silences at the end and a few at the beginning. I don't want to edit them all by hand.

http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/features.html advertises "Trim away beginning and trailing silence in mp3's, or cut away half the file if you like." but that's only if all the files have the same length of silence and you know what that length is!  Seems like false advertising, it should say "trim away beginning and ends" and not mention silence until it can auto-detect.

So, make this a vote for auto-detect & trim silence.  Right now I'll probably use mp3cut from the russian mpxutil package- it doesn't preserve ID3V2 tags, so I'll also have to use the MP3TagStudio create list/tag from list features to get that back.

Which brings up another point- there's no way to set up the export/import lists to re-create tags EXACTLY as they were. In particular, if the tag was short enough to fit all in ID3v1.1, it will still get an ID3v2 on import. Or what if the original tags were not in sync? This is important for file-sharing- many of the files don't have silence and won't be trimmed- would be nice if they kept their tags so their checksums will remain the same.

Will probably write a script to do everything I want.

But I wouldn't have to if MP3TagStudio would do the auto-silence-trim trick.

Auto silence detection is already on the todo-list, so maybe in a future version.

And about the feature list, I really don't think it's any false advertising, since it does not mention anything about auto detection of any sort.
