-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: ID3 V1 & V2 question and global case fix query started by smilingcrow Posted by: smilingcrow on Oct. 21 2004,21:46 ID3 V1 & V2 question and case fix query First off, thanks for a great product; it’s really helped me to tag my music in such a way as to make it much more accessible, both via my PC and a Creative Zen Portable. I screwed up my tags in the past and I’m in the process of retagging them, which is why I need some help. I think some of my tags were screwed because I didn’t understand the difference between ID3V1 and V2. Ironically, it was possibly this program that screwed them, but it was of course my entire fault. Be warned this is a powerful program and if you don’t know what you are doing, you can screw things big time with this software. But before that question I want to ask; is there an easy way to case fix all the tags without making any other changes? This question is related to the ID3 V1 versus V2 thing, as I’d like to case fix both versions. I’ve hit this issue because I have written my own MP3 player and it currently only works with ID3V1. I’m looking to add V2 support but firstly I want to understand how TagStudio works with these different versions, as it’s my favourite TAG editor. When I loaded all my MP3 collection into the Creative Labs Software so I could synchronize my Zen Xtra Player, I was surprised by the discrepancy between what my program shows and what the Creative Labs software shows. It seems to only use V2. It was then that I realised the discrepancy between the tag versions of my tracks. Fortunately, TagStudio 3.5 saved my ass, and allowed me to recreate my tags wholesale, so to speak. Otherwise it would have been a big job as I have a large collection. Are there any specific recommendations when trying to sync V1 and V2 tags wholesale on a large collection? My MP3 player is written in Delphi and blows me away as it’s so quick. I’ll release it as possibly freeware to the public once it’s reached a certain level of functionality. I can search across multiple ID tag fields simultaneously, against a database of 17,000 tracks instantaneously. I know I’m blowing my own trumpet, but this thing needs to be shared as its kick ass. Check out www.vacionido.com in the future for more info. Any help appreciated. If you have any more specific questions I'll answer them gladly. About how to case-fix tags, simply use the "Full tag casefix" preset of the "Direct tag manipulation" tool, and it's done in a snap. There are also presets to process only v1 and v2 tags etc in this tool, and you can create any special setup yourself too, and save it as your own preset. PS. Delphi rules. ![]() Posted by: smilingcrow on Oct. 22 2004,21:19 ---------------------QUOTE BEGIN------------------- About how to case-fix tags, simply use the "Full tag casefix" preset of the "Direct tag manipulation" tool, and it's done in a snap. If I can't deduce how to do it in Tag Studio, I'll post again. I didn't get an email notification of your posting. Not sure if it's an error on my part; thought I'd better mention it in case it isn't. I ticked the tracking box prior to previewing the post, but didn’t realise that I needed to recheck the box before actually posting it. I find that counterintuitive and wouldn’t it make more sense for the check box to retain its status after previewing? That might not be a feature of the forum software I suppose! Warm regards Crow Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 23 2004,01:08 Yeah, I was a bit annoyed by this forum quirk before too, but I never got around to patching the forum software (which I didn't write myself, as you might be aware of). Luckily, I get email notifications for all new posts on the entitre board, so I don't suffer from it too much. ![]() Posted by: smilingcrow on Oct. 23 2004,13:40 ---------------------QUOTE BEGIN------------------- Yeah, I was a bit annoyed by this forum quirk before too, but I never got around to patching the forum software (which I didn't write myself, as you might be aware of). Good job you get all the posts automatically, it might be a pain otherwise. Regards Crow end |
