newfeauters Unregistered Posted: Aug. 14 2002,00:53 Hi, currently, the fields you can specify in the Filter screen is limited. I specifically eed the "encoded By" Id3 v2 field. Also, i'd like to make a list of al files with "junk" data. Some Lyrics v2 support would be good. Actually, i want to move all my data (and lyrics) out of the lyrics tag, and into the id3v2. Finally, fill in blanks using __ would be good. E.g., fill id3v2 blanks from v1 etc. Anyway, thanks for a great product. Back to top

Glad to hear it * Exactly what do you mean with "files with junk data"? Sorry, I thought you'd know what I meant. The Repair tool has a feauture to "Remove junk data before first mp3 frame". If you could make a list of files that has junk data there, it would be good. Yes, which is why I wanted to move the lyrics I have in the Lyric3 v2 tags to the id3! But no other program supports it, so I thought i'd ask someone. Some of my progs have trouble with mp3s with the lyrics3 v2 tags, so i want to get rid of them without loosing the data. Having said that, lyrics3 is prefered by a lot of people because it is at the end of the file. * Please clarify what you mean with "fill in blanks using __". There's that "Direct tag manipulation", if thats what im asking for, then im sorry, but what what i meant was, for example, if the Artist field was blank in id3v2 but not id3v1, and the Album was blank in v1 but not v2, the program could fil in the blanks from the other tags, automatically without overwriting any data. Features that can only be used for very limited and specific tasks only confuse the majority of users, and hence I'm a bit careful with adding such features. I agree that an import tool for lyrics tags to ID3v2 could be good, I'm not sure if I have the time to do it though. Since it is quite uncommon that the ID3v1 and ID3v2 contain "half the info each", there is not a feature to "fill in the blanks" field by field. By using the filter with the "Direct tag manipulation" tool it is easy to sync the whole tags if one of them seem to contain many blanks though, by filtering out files that have no v1 tag or no v2 tag, or files that have any given tag fields set to blanks. -------------- Software author and website owner Back to top

newfeauters Unregistered Posted: Aug. 16 2002,15:31 Just to see basically. Some of my files act bizarre, for example there was one file that wouldn't open in most programs. I didn't know why, until I tried the tool, by luck. I have other files that are supposed to have sync errors at the beginning, some of those have junk data too. Oh and about the blank thing - some programs like real one mess up the id3 tags bad, and do things like that. I had another suggestion but Ive forgotten for now.. i'll add it when i remember.. newfeauters Unregistered Posted: Aug. 17 2002,00:49 yep ive remembered now (!) After (finally) cleaning up the mess RealOne left behind (huge GEOBs) there's a lot of padding in the id3v2 tags. I know it would kind of defeat the purpose of padding, but with so many mp3 files i have, removingmost of the padding so it is back at 2kb would be some thing i would use. Thanks again. Back to top

(more suggestions) * Be able to only show tags with unsynced data in the browse option. * Do a find & replace on fields (e.g. change all "feat." to "Ft.") Even better would be to move eveyrthing from & after a string (e.g. feat.) from one field to another. E.g. If artist = "112 feat. puff daddy" mp3ts can automatically proccess this and all files like this so artist just becomes "112" and " feat. puff daddy" is appended to the title field. Back to top

Temerald Unregistered Posted: Sep. 17 2002,01:27 I have created nearly 5000 mp3's at the highest quality setting using AudioCatalyst (Before Real Networks bought it and screwed up the DLL ). Since it's release, I've been running XP-Pro and discovered that wmplayer (Windows Media Player) displays everything correct but the bit rate.. No big deal. BUT... here's my dilemma I can no longer create a VBR mp3 file and have wmplayer display the time correctly; (e.g. wmplayer reports a 4 minute file as only 1:15) nor is it totally searchable (you can only search the first part of the song).  Now this is not isolated, I build computers and often re-install windows and all software on my own machine--the problem is consistent, it doesn't matter who made the encoder, if it spits out VBR, wmplayer doesn't read it right (yet the old ones display correctly).   Can you add a "Repair setting" that will give wmplayer what it wants, or better yet, add this fix to the existing "VBR header repair/add" section     I will aid you in anyway I can in this venture including sending files. Winamp 2.81 displays the info correctly, and I like it better--unless I want to see lyrics I switch to wmplayer. P.S. I have noticed some talk of Lyrics: anyone who has Windows XP can add lyrics to their mp3's. Right click on the mp3 file, select "Properties"; Click the "Summary" tab. If there is an "Advanced" button, click it. The Summary window will change to one that displays the IDv2 information and there is a spot for lyrics to be pasted. Paste them and click OK to save--that simple. The lyrics can be displayed with Windows Media Player v8 or above. To enable wmplayer to display lyrics: in wmplayer: Click -> "View" -> "Now playing tools" -> "Lyrics". Oh Magnus, one more thing on the subject of lyrics: I believe wmplayer uses IDv2 format to store the lyrics; if you decide to mess with lyrics, I vote to stick with that format. Another (but possibly related) error DOES get fixed when I run your Mp3/Tag Studio 3. Before running the VBR header repair sequence, the file is not seakale in wmplayer v8. When I attempt to seek using the slider, the file simply restarts; furthermore, in Winamp 2.8, I tried to put the seeking bar toward the end of the file ("99%") it actually plays as if you put the slider at 35%. But the seek bar and the time display show the correct values starting at 99% and coming to a rest at 100% while the song continues to play (from the 35% mark) and the Time display continues to count up until the final displayed time is nearly three times the correct file length. Your Mp3/Tag Studio 3 fixes this problem. Thank You But it does not fix the problem I talked of in my original message/request. I don't know what I am looking at when I look at a mp3 in raw form, maybe they simply put the time in the header? I don't know, either way, wmplayer has a problem showing the correct time of a file and I believe these issues are closely related enough that your program would only require a slight modification that would enable it to fix both issues. I must thank you for going through the trouble to get it this far (I remember trying Mp3/Tag Studio a few years back and it was actually damaging to my VBR Mp3's.) Magnus Brading Almighty Author Group: Super Administrators Posts: 2751 Joined: Aug. 2002 Posted: Sep. 17 2002,16:03 I have read somewhere that the Windows mediaplayer/explorer ignores the length field in VBR headers and instead needs to read this information from the "length" field (TLEN) of the ID3v2 tag. This is incredibly stupid of them for so many reasons, but it just might be true. Try to edit this field in Mp3/TS and see what happens. All of the Mp3's I created before, late last year shows the correct time when played with Windows Media Player even after I delete all ID tags. Magnus Brading Almighty Author Group: Super Administrators Posts: 2751 Joined: Aug. 2002 Posted: Sep. 20 2002,23:58 Temerald, my guess is that all those "old" songs were simply not encoded in VBR (Variable BitRate), but then you started using VBR (although not necessarily knowingly) and this caused the playlength problem to occur for these files? It is only VBR files that have this problem at all, CBR files (Constant BitRate) always get the correct playlength. And about the data you listed, it is (part of) a VBR header. Was this in an "old but working" file, or from a "new and problematic" file? If you mail me one of the old mp3 files (without playlength display problems) and one of the new files (with playlength display problems), I can analyze them for you and see what the difference is between them.
