if i can, how would i RE-format my id track numbers to ##.
for example to make the following changes
1 -> 01
01 -> 01
10 -> 10
right now all padding (0's) are removed and i need them for ordering.
right now my order would go
1,10,11,12,2,3,4,5,6
instead of
01,02,03,04,05,06,10,11,12
i see where the setting is in 'general tagging and renaming' but how could i apply it to my exsiting id's ?

After setting that option in the "general tagging and renaming" section of the global settings, you can e.g. use the "Direct tag manipulation" tool with the template "<TrackNr>  ----->  <TrackNr>". That should do exactly what you want.
