-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Suggestions +---Topic: Custom Tag Frames started by bradp Posted by: bradp on April 29 2003,06:06 I am a club dj who spins vinyl, cd and... yes MP3; and to do so I use PCDJ and Final Scratch (both great systems). However, I need the ability to quickly write to special Advanced IDv3 tag frames that are used in the PCDJ GUI. When I try to write from a text file to these "special frames in tag" using this tool, its a no go. The "file row format" turns red and the Execute greys out. See my examples below. i.e. Sample "file row format" from text file that I would like to execute. Export to file = <Target file AP>;<year>;<version>;<genre> Import from file = <Target file AP>;<V2_Original release year>;<V2_Subtitle/Description refinement>;<V2_comment> Note: V2_Comment is a custom frame that PCDJ adds, not the standard comment included with ID3 tags. Using your program, I have the cleanest set of Mp3 tags I could hope for, but unfortunatly I can not view the std. comment, year and version in the PCDJ playlist GUI. Important when your on the fly. Okay, now for the smooze... I have used your program for years, and thankfully have supplied the owners with the $20 reg. donation. But if you can pull this request off, I'd gladly pay the $20 again. [I][B] Posted by: bradp on April 29 2003,06:16 Oh yeah, I wanted to mention that I can edit the special tag frames individually and manually when the adv v2 tag window is open. But I'll leave the individual...manual way of doing things for those who have the time. Posted by: Magnus Brading on April 29 2003,11:58 Hmm, exactly which frame is this "custom frame" that you refer to as <v2_comment>? What's the ID3v2 frame ID for it? You say you can set it from the advanced ID3v2 window of the browse tool? Which box do you set it in? I've got a feeling it's already possible to do what your requesting, please just clarify and I'll help you. Posted by: Disposable Hero on April 29 2003,21:55 Magnus - is there a way to identify the specific ID3v2 frame type from within Tag Studio? I have a similar situation with J River Media Center - custom tags that I would like to use Tag Studio to write. But I don't know how to ID their frame type. They appear in the "Additional frames in tag" box of the Advanced ID3v2 info window, listed as "COMMENT". (2 minutes later) ...OK, I used a hex editor and they are multiple COMM tags. But I can't figure out how to write multiple custom COMM tags. Posted by: bradp on April 30 2003,03:01 I click on a Mp3 file. Click the checkbox for "Adanced ID3v2 Info". Highlight one of the custom frames listed previously... either "Comment", "Subtitle/description refinement", or "Original release year". Click the field "Frame Contents" and edit it to whatever I want. Then click the "Write" button. Of course, these custom frames must be added first. If I manually added some info in either of these fields in PCDJ, then the custom frame will show up in Tag Studio. Of course if I never added anything in PCDJ it will not show up in Tag Studio. So what I would like to be able to do is create custom frames and populate the "Frame Contents" using the text import methods. Posted by: Magnus Brading on April 30 2003,12:37 Disposable Hero: The multiple comment fields in the ID3v2 specification are implemented in a way that is bound to cause confusion and mess. Hence, I only support editing existent multiple comment fields right now, not adding them. ![]() bradp: All such special ID3v2 tag fields can be added from a list with an advanced mode template, yes. Simply set the "Tag/rename from list" tool to advanced/tag mode, and right click in the template text box. Under the "Advanced v2 fields" option in the menu that will appear, you will be able to select any such field you like, for direct import into the tags from the list. Posted by: bradp on May 01 2003,05:33 That's exactly what I thought... however when I type in for example <v2_"any special custom frame tag">, the execute command greys out and will not allow import. Is this something that should happen? Or will you only allow the special frames from the specific list (all of which are 4 digit like <v2_TCOM>), etc... Posted by: Magnus Brading on May 01 2003,14:10 All ID3v2 frame IDs are four letters, there are no other kind of frames. All text-based ID3v2 frames are supported, and they are all listed in the right-click menu of the edit-box. What are you trying to enter? Posted by: bradp on May 02 2003,07:19 I contacted PCDJ and they lead me to a tagger that already supports these custom tags for PCDJ and Winamp. I guess they beat you to it. If you want to know what I needed in case you decide to implement into Tag Studio, go to www.softpointer.com. See the PCDJ tags in the advanced section. Posted by: Magnus Brading on May 02 2003,12:33 These "custom tags" you are describing are just normal ID3v2 fields. If you could just tell me which exact fields they are, I could tell you how to write them with Mp3/Tag Studio. The only thing that this other program has apparently done is to label the fields explicitly as "PCDJ fields", although they really are just normal ID3v2 fields. end |
