Leif Andersen Unregistered Posted: Oct. 01 2002,11:37 Hi, I don't know if this is a known problem - I've browsed the other topics without finding anyting. When the program is closed down, there is still several instances of mp3tag_s.exe running under processes, and several folders are locked. I have a download directory, where I work with the files (including working with the files with mp3 tagstudio), once everything is OK I move the folders to the final destination. However even if I close down mp3 tagstudio, the folders are still locked and can't be moved. I often open and close mp3 tagstudio. I noticed, that a large number of mp3tag_s.exe files under processes in the Windows XP task manager, all taking just over 10.000 K. When I ended all the visiable processes of mp3tag_s.exe I could delete most (but not all) folders. I have taken a screen shot of most one instance with many processes of mp3tag_s.exe - but I have seen many more in one go. (if you want a copy - I can mail it to you) Am I way out here? Regards Leif. But as far as I know, this should not be possible in Windows XP, but only in Windows 9x. Are you saying that there is always a process left when closing Mp3/TS for you, or only sometimes? Anyone else experienced something similar? And I won't need the screenshot, I understand what you mean anyway. But you do know that you can upload images in your posts right here on the board (both as inline images and attachments), right? Just make sure to have them jpg-compressed relatively much, to make them take up less space (there is a max size for attached files too). -------------- Software author and website owner Back to top

Leif Andersen Unregistered Posted: Oct. 01 2002,18:40 Hi Magnus, Once I have had MP3 studio open, there is always at least one process of mp3tag_s.exe running. About an hour ago I did a few files, just after a clean start of Windows - I closed it down afterwards - and the process is still running. If I use it a lot, I have seen up to 9 instances of mp3tag_s.exe running. Ok - Just did a little test - I now have 20 instances of mp3tag_s.exe running. Each time I start it from new it starts a new process - which doesn't close down. Each using about 10.000K of memory. And apparently they don't close down over time either. I have 1GB of memory installed, and just now have loads available (and during this boot - I haven't used much - My performance monitor says that the commited charge has been 398976 K). I can close them down manually - but for some reason the LOCK on folders doesn't disappear with the process. Hope this isn't too much of problems :-) Regards Leif. Back to top

This sounds very strange, and I cannot reproduce it at all on my Windows XP computer. I will keep your report in mind anyway, and if I'm ever able to reproduce the problem I will do my best to analyze it. If you have any anti-virus software installed, please try to deactivate it and try again if any process is left when Mp3/TS is closed. Some anti-virus software products might have problems with the rather complex self-modifying code that is used inside Mp3/Tag Studio, which in turn might lead to unpredictable results like this. Leif Andersen Unregistered Posted: Oct. 01 2002,22:47 Hello Magnus, I have a cable connection - and I am always on. I dare not disable the virus program for too long. I run Norton Antivirus 2002. The virus program doesn't come with any warnings though - sometimes it does, when it thinks programs acts 'strange'. And one thing more I am administrator, when I use the computer, so it's not a user /administrator problem. Strange - It's absolutely certain on my setup!! Every time I start MP3 tag studio, a process is left. Maybe I will install it on my wifes computer next to me - and try it there. If the 'normal' install works fine. May I try my registration code on her computer, to see if it then makes the left over processes? Regards Leif. Back to top

And by the way, your anti-virus software does not protect you from attacks from the internet, that's the job of a personal firewall, so disabling the anti-virus software for a few minutes should not be a problem (as long as you don't download any new files or email during this period of course). Wolfgang Unregistered Posted: Nov. 06 2002,12:08 Hello Magnus, I have the same problem. I can not close 100% the mp3-tag-studio. In the task-manager are still the mp3tag_s,exe with 9.168k, 9.176k and 9.180k. I use win xp sp1 and NO antivirus software. every task locks it last used folder. Regards Wolfgang Back to top

That's just awesome!   About the problem, I've got a couple of thoughts: First, does this only happen after you've done some work with your files?  If you open Tag Studio and close it down without doing anything, is something still running? Second, have you tried opening Tag Studio, performing a single function (i.e. adding a comment to a file) and then closing it?  Is something still running? Third--if the above all yield a process still running--start up in safe mode or with the least processes running that you can possibly have... then repeat the first two items I suggested. Let's hear the results.  I think we'll figure this one out... George Back to top
