This might indicate that your special characters are after all not normal 1-byte characters, but indeed Unicode, which is not supported at the moment. As a last verification, please send me a bunch of very small example files for each of these problematic letters, in a zip file (like Y.txt, y.txt, where Y is the big version of the problematic letter and y is the small version of it), so I can experiment with them myself. Please try to extract the files from the zip archive first before sending it to me, because Winzip also has problems handling Unicode characters in filenames).
