-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Suggestions +---Topic: Used Codec Info started by gecko Posted by: gecko on June 16 2003,15:00 I miss one thing in the mp3-info Window: An info about the used mp3 codec. If I want to know which codec was used to build the mp3 file, i have to start an other mp3 tag program. An implementation of this feature would be very cool because it's a bit unhandy to use two programs and mp3 tag studio is my very favourite. Posted by: Magnus Brading on June 16 2003,15:28 Mp3 files do not use different codecs, but I assume you are referring to the name of the encoder software used to create the particular mp3 file? This detection is not explicitly included in the mp3 file (except by certain encoders, e.g. LAME), and hence such a detection is only probabilistic, and I don't like to display data which is not certain. Many of those other programs that claim to do this often report the wrong encoder, and a wrong indication is worse than no indication at all I think. Posted by: Disposable Hero on June 16 2003,20:32 Hmm. I thought Xing identified itself as well. Regardless, it would be of value to me to have a detector without guesswork. If it told me only whether a file was produced with LAME or not, that would potentially be valuable. LAME version and/or preset used would be icing on the cake Posted by: Magnus Brading on June 16 2003,20:43 Ok, ok, I'll put a note about it on the todo list. Nice to see you around anyway Disposable Hero. Posted by: gecko on June 16 2003,21:53 Of course I meant the encoder =) Thanks for putting it on the list, it gives me the feeling of being heard Posted by: Disposable Hero on June 16 2003,23:35 Heh, I'm always around... you just beat me to the answers on a regular basis Posted by: Magnus Brading on June 17 2003,01:05 end |
