Hi,

I don't know if this is a bug. When I open some mp3 files, they have a negative length e.g. -159:-9 min. The original file lenght is 221:39 min. I want to cut the file but it does not work. It only works if i cut a negativ length of the file e.g. -5:03. Because the negative file length is not the original it doesn't make any sense for a correct cut. After the cut the new file is still negativ.

I hope you can help me.

Is this both in the browse tool mp3 info box and the trim tool info box, or only in the trim tool? Seems like a 16-bit integer wrapping problem at first glance anyway...

It is in both tools, the browse tool mp3 info box and the trim tool info box. If the mp3 file is corrupt, can I repair it?

2 questions that may or may not relate:
Are the MP3's encoded with LAME?
Are the MP3's VBR (Variable Bit Rate)?

I ask because some versions of LAME incorrectly tag the length/duration of VBR files. It seems that the larger the file, the greater the variation from actual duration.

Magnus: could the VBR fix work in such a scenario? Or possibly a "cheat" trim, ie. trimming the minimum possible from the files in order to rewrite the duration tag?

A VBR-repair should help if the files have invalid VBR headers, yes. It should be noted though that large amounts of ram memory might be needed by some of the tools in Mp3/Tag Studio when working with such huge files. I'd take a backup of the files before trying any operations on them (which is for that matter advisable in any case when attempting to repair damaged mp3 files, no matter then size).

Audible_c:
Are the files reported as having a VBR bitrate?
(this can be seen in the mp3 info of the browse tool)

The file is encoded with Frauenhofer mp3 with constant 192 kbps.

I used the trim tool several time with different results

Rembember: original file length -150: -9
First I entered to cut -10:00: new file lenth: -165:-49
When I enter -150:00: new file length: +1:42

What i found out, if I cut more then half of the file the "new" file length is positiv. As long as I cut less then the file length, the negativ length seem to be added in some kind.
