A VBR-repair should help if the files have invalid VBR headers, yes. It should be noted though that large amounts of ram memory might be needed by some of the tools in Mp3/Tag Studio when working with such huge files. I'd take a backup of the files before trying any operations on them (which is for that matter advisable in any case when attempting to repair damaged mp3 files, no matter then size).
Audible_c: Are the files reported as having a VBR bitrate? (this can be seen in the mp3 info of the browse tool)
