Beta 14: Pressing (F5) to refresh the Explorer dirtree mostly brings an Error "List Index out of bounds(n)", where n is a natural number. In some rarer cases the error isn't displayed, but my drive starts "buzzing" weirdly for about a second, until the Dirtree seems to be refreshed. This behaviour changes from "buzzing" to "Error Message" to "buzzing" (...) when I mark different directories when pressing F5.

So i guess the "problem related to refreshing the Explorer dirtree" isn't really fixed completely.

OK, the other problem with that still seems to BE fixed, but the behaviour described above seems to be new.

Sorry, but please have a nice Sunday anyway, i didn't wanna spoil that!

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks for the report. Hmm, very strange, I haven't seen this occur a single time myself. I guess it might have to do with what the directory structure of the current computer is.

Does this happen or not happen to anyone else here?

Can you see any patterns for when this happens and when it does not, to help me reproduce and fix it?

Hmmm...
All my drives are formatted with NTFS.

When I select any root directory in the Explorer dirtree and press F5, I ALWAYS receive that "List index out of bounds(n)".
For drive C: I receive "List index out of bounds(0)", for drive D: I receive (repeatable! ) "List index out of bounds(1)", and so on, so for the root directory of my external drive M: I receive "List index out of bounds(10)".

This is all repeatable even with a "freshly" started MP3TS.

I installed beta14 by replacing all files with the files from the patch for beta14, not by using the complete installation file.

For most (but strangely not all) empty directories on a hard drive I receive the same error message as in the root directory of that drive.
For a non-empty directory the behaviour is not predictable:
while for drive M:'s rootdirectory I receive the ...(10) error, I receive an ...(7) when I press F5 for a non-empty directory on that drive, no matter if filter is selected or not...

So well: to me it happens in 95% of the cases when I press F5 with "use explorer tree", no matter if "custom file selection mode" is selected or not.

What could I tell more? XP home edition, SP2, all the latest windows updates... before beta14 pressing F5 had no effect at all in MP3TS.

Should I try to use the full installation file instead?

Cheers,
Michael

Thanks for the details. Sadly, I still cannot reproduce the problem a single time, even though following all your instructions. :( Damn, I'm really starting to hate that friggin' Explorer dirtree... It's the only non-standard third party control in the program, and it's given me more trouble than I can remember. I've used three completely different controls for it, but they all have resulted in strange show-stopping errors due to bugs inside their own code. For the love of god can't anyone make a decent Explorer tree control, should I have to do it myself too!?! *mumble, mumble*

Anyway, if anyone has some other tip that can lead to tracking this problem down (i.e. the exact conditions for reproducing it), please don't hesitate to post it here, no matter how small.

And about the upgrade version versus the full version, they should be completely equal, but I guess it would never hurt to try, since this error is strange as it is anyway...

OK, I de-installed it completely, re-installed it with the full installer, but behaviour ist the same as before. Mark a root directory of any choice, press F5, and.... list index out of bounds... :-(
So isn't there anybody who can reproduce that error? For me this error comes everytime...

but uh-oh.... before deinstalling it I should have saved all my casefix and replace-settings... aaaaargh, they are all gone now, genious as they were...
did MP3TS store my last settings anywhere, although I hadn't saved them explicitely? I still have a back-up of my former installation, but my personal casefix settings saved in the CasefixPresets directory seem to be older than my last used settings... even a system recovery didn't help to bring my settings back... this is of course not your fault, but only my own...
hmmm... what about the following suggestion:
if someone is using his/her own personal replacement- & casefix settings, couldn't MP3TS store them automatically at the end of the program in a file (maybe THE file with the current personalized settings), or at least ask if they should be saved?
They definitely seem to be stored anyway somewhere if I didn't save them, because I could still use them (before me de-installation), but they've not been saved in my own settings-file...

Maybe I could make a new thread out of that, it would lead us too far from the F5 error...

Cheers,
Michael

All your stored casefix presets are stored in the subfolder "CasefixPresets" of the main Mp3/Tag Studio installation folder (as separate files). Likewise, all your filter presets are stored in the subfolder "FilterPresets" of the main Mp3/Tag Studio installation folder (also as separate files).

The last used settings for the filter and the casefix tool are also stored in the main data file (mp3ts.dat), even if you haven't saved them explicitly as presets.

These files should normally not be removed during an uninstallation, so are you sure they're not left in these subfolders of the old Mp3/Tag Studio installation directory?

Puhhh, that's it! Hip-Hip-Hurray on the mp3ts.dat :)

To be sure to have a "NEW" installation I had deleted all the files in my installation folder, saved only my personal settings in CasefixPresets...

So thanks to your help now everything is restored again (good luck I had made a manual backup of my installation directory before).  ...and now I'll immediately make the SAVE to my personal setting files... :)

And now back again to the "stranger" problems... still nobody out there with the same behaviour in beta14? Really strange! So far I thought I had just a regular system, without any really extraordinary settings... apart from some settings made with MS Powertoys... could these have an influence on the Dirtree?

Cheers,
Michael

Ok, I'm glad it worked out. :)

And about the source of the dirtree problems, sure, with these things you never know, so you should never rule out anything, like e.g. the Powertoys possibility.

As said above, if anyone else can reproduce these problems, please let us know in this thread.
