Hi..

When creating custom lists, is there a way to seperate the fields with TABS in the text file's output?
Posted by: Magnus Brading on Jan. 09 2007,12:20

Not currently, but simply set the separator to something else unique, and do a search and replace in the created file in a text-editor whan it's done.

That'll work...Thanks!

And thanks for such a killer program! :)

Copy a "tab" ( ) from notepad and paste it to the seperator field.

Tip: Give the list file xls extension and then open in Ms excel.

Sorry for the temporary board bug, here is a copy of the last "disappeared" post, by Klintan:

sorry for going slightly off topic but i've a similar problem.

what if u want to add a carriage return? how do u copy that? I want to add a few comments in the comments field of id3tags and it would be nice to be able to seperate them properly.

any ideas?

You CAN copy a newline in notepad. However the seperator fileld do not accept multiline. So my copy_tab idea will not work.
Another Idea I got for this is to type something uniqe in the seperator field and then with a decent editor do a search and replace. Search for your unique string and replace it with a newline.

Problem is how do u select or copy a newline? I've tried that in Word but when it replaces with a new line u jump onto the next line which takes it to tag of the next file. Is there some special symbol for newline but which stays on the same line?

With notepad and wordpad it doesn't work either. which editor would u suggest?

There is indeed a special sequence for this: [NEWLINE]
Posted by: kazim on Mar. 26 2007,23:26

Ok here's what I wrote in my custom list:
name.mp3 ;  test1 [NEWLINE] test2 NEWLINE test3
with the setting:
<Target file> ; <Comment>
and here's what i get in my id3tag for name.mp3
test1 [NEWLINE] test2 NEWLINE test3

what am i doing wrong?

The [NEWLINE] field only works for lists, I thought you were talking about those, sorry. In the mass set and browse tools you can add newlines directly into the comment text box (by either pressing return or shift+return I think, don't remember which off the top of my head).

sorry for the very late reply.

I was indeed talking about lists and not the mass set tags :)

Going back to the example. I've made a test file named list.txt, which is to serve as my list with the following 2 lines:
1a.mp3 ; test1 test2 test3 ; 1989 ;
2a.mp3 ; test1 [NEWLINE] test2 NEWLINE test3 ; 1989 ;

In the "Tag/rename from list" tab in MP3 Tag Studio I've choosen the advanced option and have choosen for "File row format" the following:
<Target file>;<Year>;<Comment>

Finally when I click on the "Execute !" button I already get the preview window. Here, I get in the comments field literally what I wrote down. No newline or anything. This is what I get:
test1 test2 test3
test1 [NEWLINE] test2 NEWLINE test3

The other fields works as expected.

Long story short, either the [NEWLINE] thing isn't working :( or I don't know how to use it :ashamed:

Hello.

I, too, cannot use MP3 Tag Studio on Vista.
I have the full retail version of Home Premium.

Magnus, I don't mind waiting for an updated Vista-compatible version of the program.

But my question is this:  When an updated version is ready, will there be a charge for it, or will it be a standard upgrade?

Thanks!  Jd

Please try the new beta that was released today, it should work in Vista. And yes, it's a free upgrade (all upgrades are free for Mp3/Tag Studio, all licenses are life-time long).
end
