-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Autotagging based on existing tag. started by devNull Posted by: devNull on Aug. 07 2004,14:07 Hello, Is it possible to autotag based on existing tags? For example, let's say I have a file which has "A B / C D" in the title field of the tag and I would like to use "A B" as the artist and "C D" as the title. Is this possible? I only know how to do this based on filename, but can I do it based on tags? Thanks, devNull Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 07 2004,14:57 Sure, simply use the "Direct tag manipulation" tool, or in more complex operations, create a macro that uses the list maker tool and the "Tag from list" tool with an intermediary list file, then you can perform arbitrarily complex tagging operations based on the current tag contents. I'll be more specific. Let's say I have the following file (which is improperly tagged and named): 01 - Pink Floyd Dogs of War.mp3 The tag for this track looks like this: Track Number = "01" Artist = "Various Artists" Title = "Pink Floyd / Dogs of War" and what it *should* be is: Track Number = "01" Artist = "Pink Floyd" Title = "Dogs of War" So taking your advice I tried the "Direct tag manipulation" tool but I just can't see how this retagging is possible with that tool. If I go into advanced mode and type "<Artist> / <Title>" in the left window how can I tell the tool that the input comes from the title field? I just don't get it. Your second suggestion was to use a macro. I had a similar problem with this. I could get the filelist tool to accept "<Artist> / <Title>" as a template, but how can I tell it that this template is to be applied to the present title field? I'm not looking for a step-by-step, just a nudge in the right direction. I make a filelist using "<Title>" as the template and then I use "Tag/rename from list" and use "<Artist> / <Title>" as the template. Seems to work. Very nice! I'll still gladly listen to other/better ways of doing this if you have any suggestions. Thanks, devNull Posted by: devNull on Aug. 09 2004,10:56 Please forgive my quoting the entire previous exchange. I thought the "Preview Post" showed *exactly* what would be posted. devNull Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 09 2004,19:26 ---------------------QUOTE------------------- Ah, I think I got it.
