I was thinking it would be useful to have an option in the "case fix and replace" setup that would ignore substrings if they were already all caps (i.e. 2 or more capitalized letters in a row) so instead of "REM - Nightswimming" --> "Rem - Nightswimming" it would just remain as the former.  As it stands, when you have a list of substrings to replace (ex. tv --> TV) then an MP3 with that substring in the middle will produce undesired results (ex. "quietview" --> "QuieTView") unless you include all space-char options (" tv ", "tv ", " tv").

In addition, I have tried your suggestion for the fast-sync of the two tag versions (using the right-click, direct tag manipulation option).  However, say I had a list of mp3's where some with ONLY ID3v1 tags are interleaved with others with ONLY ID3v2.  There are'nt enough fields in "direct tag manipulation" to allow for this (so that the result is all of the tags become synced).  I would think it would be easier if there were a button on "browse/edit tags & flags" that synced the two.  Ultimately, it is easier (than "direct tag manip.") just to click into a field of a tag, type a character and then delete it just so that the "write changes" button becomes enabled, and the tags become synced after clicking "write changes".

There is already a feature planned for the substring replace tool, where you will be able to select "whole word only", and it will solve this problem. Also, I don't think it would feel completely safe to have an option that leaves capitalizations that are potentially incorrect.

I always try to minimize the number of buttons in the GUI for single specific operations like this, since every new button makes the GUI more complex and confusing for users.

You can sync all your files in a matter of seconds by just performing two sweeps with the "Direct tag manipulation tool". First set the filter to only process files that don't have a v1 tag but do have a v2 tag, and do a v2 --> v1 conversion. Then do the opposite (set the filter to only process files that do have a v1 tag but don't have a v2 tag, and do a v1 --> v2 conversion).

I just thought of a way to add such a button to the browse tool in a quite discreet and non-confusing way though, so it might be there in the next version anyway. :)

Ok, I feel a little stupid for not thinking about this yesterday, but here is a way to do it in one sweep, alternatively direct from the browse tool, with hotkey/menu item:

Set the "Direct tag manipulation" tool to the following:

---------------------CODE SAMPLE-------------------
<Artist>  ---->  <Artist>
<Title>  ---->  <Title>
<Album>  ---->  <Album>
<Year>  ---->  <Year>
<Comment>  ---->  <Comment>
<Genre>  ---->  <Genre>
<TrackNr>  ---->  <TrackNr>

---------------------CODE SAMPLE-------------------

(i.e., the "Full case fix" preset, without the casefix option).

Now it will act exactly as you desire, and can be accessed from the menu/hotkey of the browse tool, just as before. I will add a preset for it in the "Direct tag manipulation" tool in the next update.
end
