I'm having a rather difficult time renaming files from their tags.  I'm using the format "<Artist> - <Album> - <TrackNr> - <Title>.mp3"; however, when the filename gets to be over 72 or so characters it becomes truncated.

e.g. What should be: "Múm - Please Smile My Noise Bleed - 04 - Please Sing My Spring Reverb (i.s.a.n. catena mix).mp3"
becomes: "Múm - Please Smile My Noise Bleed - 04 - Please Sing My Spring Reverb (.mp3"

This is exceedingly annoying.  Any solution?  Maybe a setting I can't find?

There is a setting to be able to automatically truncate filenames, but it is neither active by defailt, nor set to 72 characters by default. You can find it at: Global settings (file menu) --> General tagging and renaming --> Truncate created filenames...

If that's not it, my guess would be that the problem is related to some underlying file system limitation, not originating from Mp3/Tag Studio.

I have that album and renamed it with no probs. Do check the preferences as Magnus suggests. I have nothing really constructive to add, I just like that album  :)

Well, I figured out the problem.  It was that when I used the program to add all the ID3 tags to my files it truncated the "title" parameter.  So when renaming based on the ID3 tag's title the result appears truncated.  =\

While I'm here, I might as well ask another question.  It just so happens that all my filenames are the track title by itself (no artist, album, etc.)   Is there a way to rename files based on ID3 tags AND filenames?  i.e. "<Artist> - <Album> - <TrackNr> - <Filename>.mp3"?

Sure, it takes one more step though, but you can easily turn it into a macro anyway. Simply export all the data you need from the tags and the filename to a text file (using the custom list creation tool), and then import any data you want from this list, using the "Tag/rename from list" tool. Two sweeps and you're done.
