In spite of all the new and really cool features in Bookmark Converter 3.0, I guess there could still be some people who think that something really cool is missing anyway (although I'm quite doubtful ;)).

If you're one of them, please drop me a line here, and I'll send a hitman after you... *COFF* I mean, and I will consider implementing it, of course! ;)

I strongly recommend that you add a function to delete all duplicates, either manually tagged or tagged automatically, when an analysis is performed to find duplicates. Having to delete each dupe item manually sucks. :(

The problem is, how would the program choose which of the dupes to preserve? A random selection of this would in most cases have nondesirable results. :(

First, you should enable the manual "tagging" of selected duplicate entries.  You can also enable an automatic "tagging" of either the 1st occurrence or 2nd/following occurrences of duplicate entries.  The user could then "untag" anything that he didn't want to get rid of.  The biggest problem is the manual tagging of dupes, which takes a lot of time and energy.  Both in your program and in another bookmarks program I use, AM Deadlink, there is no function for automated tagging, and when you have a bookmark file that consists of  1600 entries, like mine, the need to manually delete each entry individually sucks.

Ok, but if you don't have more that two duplicates of your bookmarks, this "untagging" will take exactly as long time as "tagging" which bookmarks to remove. :) But sure, I guess I can add a "select all" button in a future update, no problem.

You may also add a bit of optional intelligence that tries to guess which bookmark to remove. For instance, if a bookmark in a folder is a dupe of a bookmark at the root level, chances are that the user would want to keep the one in the folder. If both are in folders, or option is disabled, then you'd have to guess, i.e. 2nd instance is always marked for delete. Just a thought.

Magnus,
If you are bored, feel free to revisit my previous suggestions, esp the favicons and resizability.  ;)

I seem to use the synch utility much more often than converting bookmarks (after initial setup). Would it make more sense to display this utility more prominently in the GUI, for example, two tabs along the top to select either 'Convert' or 'Sync/Merge' functions and a preference to choose which is the default?

I'm the only user on the machine I use BMC for. Opera, Mozilla, and Netscape only have one profile each. This means only one bookmarks file exists for each browser. In this scenario, when I choose a bookmark type, could BMC automatically determine that one profile exists and automatically  select the bookmark file or the directory in which it should reside?

Dan,

About "intelligent" selection of dupes:
I'd never trust such an algorithm to select the bookmarks for me at least. I would still have to look them all through every time. :) I guess I could do something like that if I ever get some spare time though.

About synch-tool in the main GUI:
Why don't you create a Windows shortcut (icon on your desktop) with a command-line that takes care of it all if you use it often? Then it will be even easier than any GUI. I don't want to put the synch-tool in the main GUI anyway, because it will "scare" many non-advanced users with its complexity.

About defaulting to certain bookmark files:
I guess I could make it do that, but it would most likely be much better for you to just create shortcuts here too.

About being bored:
I'm never bored, ever (really). On the contrary, I'm always completely stressed out with things to do, but thanks for reminding me about your earlier suggestions though, all good suggestions are archived in my todo list, for possible implementation in future versions.

Hello,

I tried Bookmark Converter with my IE and Netscape bookmarks and it worked great.  But I also have bookmarks in my Opera.adr file and and a separate Mozilla bookmark.htm file.

It would be nice if I could convert bookmarks among all four browsers, and a master bookmark file, and store a backup of all bookmarks in the master file somewhere on a different drive other than drive C.

Some websites work fine with IE, some work better with a different browser.  Rather than making frequent changes to
IE options, I just use a different browser when a website doesn't display properly.  Keeping all the bookmarks organized can be challenging.

That is very easy to accomplish with the bookmark synchronize feature! Please read more about it in the help file, and ask here if there is something that you feel is unclear.
