Cant get IE "Links" contents to show up in Opera 7. It seems that with Opera 7, the contents of the personal bar are no longer determined by having a bookmark exists in a specially labeled bookmark folder. Rather, an attribute now exists for each bookmark telling it to display in the Personal Bar. It seems that if you drag and drop a URL to the toolbar that doesn't exist in your bookmarks, it will create the URL as a bookmark at the root level and assign the attribute to display it on the toolbar. Personally I prefer the special folder solution. Seems cleaner. This is my first time to use Opera, so from observing BMC I'm assuming that version 6 used a "Personal Bar" folder. So, now convertig IE favorites to Opera creates this Personal Bar folder that Opera doesn't seem to use. When importing IE favorites from Opera, no "Personal Bar" folder is created at all! Is there a need to have a seperate type for Opera 1-6 and 7+? Can anything be done? If this is how Opera now uses the personal bar, it would have been nice for them to have added the attribute as a new feature, but left the functionallity of the folder as well. Thoughts?

Thanks for the info, I didn't know this. I will look into it.

Hopefully they do not care where these bookmarks are located (the ones with special attributes), and then it would most likely be possible to create a combined solution for version 7 and the earlier versions. Otherwise I might have to separate them, like you say.

Looks like Opera 7 doesn't seem to care where these personal bar bookmarks are located, just their attributes, so a combined solution should work. It could get really ugly, though. FWIW here are some thoughts. Converting from IE to Opera is easy, create the Personal Bar folder, but also set the attribute to have the bookmark appear on the toolbar. But, what would happen when I add a new URL to the toolbar in Opera? The new bookmark is added to the root level, not the folder. When I convert from Opera to IE, would the code have to parse all the bookmarks, since toolbar bookmarks can appear anywear, for the set attribute and have those appear in IE's "Links" folder? Then when converting from IE back to Opera, would the bookmark at the root level, created in Opera, be just a normal bookmark, without the attribute set. There may be a case where the propogation of duplicate bookmarks occurs, but I don't see how to avoid it. Also, BMC has a built in dupe finder, so proper use of the tool on the user side would keep things clean.

Yes, you are right, the duplication problem with repeated syncs is the most problematic issue regarding this. I'll try to do as good a workaround as possible anyway, I think I already know how to solve it in a smooth way actually, which should produce no dupes or other user-visible problems.

Thanks for your info regarding this problem.

Just wondering if you were able to come up with a solution to this issue, and if we will be blessed with a new version soon... :)

I'm sorry, sadly the gods have not blessed me with enough spare time to be able to in turn bless you with a new version yet. :( Thanks for reminding me though, I'll move it up a bit on the list. ;)

It's already implemented in the version lying around here on my disk actually. This update will hopefully be completed and released soon. Stay tuned...

I wanted to post this:
"
5. I am not sure but it looks like when merging Opera with IE - the contents of the Opera's Personal Bar are CORRECTLY copied to IE's Links, BUT the IE's

Links folder contents are not copied ot Opera's Personal Bar...
"
but it looks like you already are informed about it...
