I've only found one very small thing working differently in v3 that I can't seem to fix.
I name my files very simply -- just <artist> - <title>, unless the year field in the tag is filled, in which case I use <artist> - <title> <year>. Those are the only two templates entered for either mass renaming or renaming an individual file from the right-click menu.
Before v3, once I had used the <year> template (so that it was the last used), all files were renamed correctly, either when I did mass renamings or renamed individual files from the right-click menu within the program. (Similarly, outside the program, in Explorer, I could select a number of files and pick the template that included the year, and everything would be renamed correctly, whether the year was actually available or not. If the <year> field was empty, MP3/Tag Studio would simply leave it out.
Now, with v3, everything works the same -- except that, in all situations, MP3/Tag Studio now leaves a trailing space between the artist name and the ".mp3" if the year field is empty.
Examples:
I have a song entitled "Song No. 1" by "Joe Blow," with the year "1993" entered in the tag field, and a second song entitled "Song No. 2" by "Jon Smith," with no year entered.
Prior to v3, if I used my <artist> - <title> <year> template, I'd get the following:
Joe Blow - Song No. 1 1993.mp3 Jon Smith - Song No. 2.mp3
Now, what I get is:
Joe Blow - Song No. 1 1993.mp3 Jon Smith - Song No. 2 .mp3
Note the space at the end of the last title, prior to the extension.
I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of that space. I tried having the advanced case-fix function switch " .mp3" to ".mp3" after the case-fix, but that doesn't work. (I also have the switch marked for removing leading and trailing spaces, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Any suggestions?
Great program, by the way. I have a huge music collection and I keep around 10,000 mp3s on my system at any given time, and I've tried a lot of tagging programs over the last few years before settling on this one.
