+---Topic: Settings flags changes encoder? started by guh245

Hi, I have a question, and while it doesn't effect the mp3 quality or anything like that, it still is puzzling me.  I sometimes use a few other tag editors in conjunction with mp3 tag studio, one of them shows the "encoded by" information of the mp3.  When I set the original flag or any other flag with mp3 tag studio, sometimes it changes the "encoded by" section.  For example I just changed a large mp3's original flag. Before the flag set Encoded By said FH something or Xing (can't quite remember) but afterwards said LAME.  No version, just LAME.  I was wondering if this is pretty normal with settings flags after the mp3 has been encoded?

Also, just figured I'd ask this while I'm posting.  Do most mp3 encoders set the flags in the header of the mp3?  (The first of the set flag options in mp3 tag studio)

Thanks a lot for any help.

This is because there is no special field or signature for which encoder that created a file, so all these "encoder detectors" have to do it heuristically, by looking at several different subtle differences inside the mp3 files, which are usually set somewhat different by different encoders. One of these subtle details is the state of the mp3 header flags, which is the reason that the "guess" of your detection tool was changed when you changed one of these flags.

Wow, I never knew that.  Very interesting to know though.  Thanks for the info!
