-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Tagging from a list in subdirectories started by calberga Posted by: calberga on Sep. 22 2003,14:03 I wish to perform a "Tag from List" operation on the files in a set of sub (and sub-sub) directories. I have a file containing the tag values and the file names, separated by " | ". I have tried fully resolved file names such as: D:\To Be Formated\String Quartets - Haydn\Opus 0\Quartet in E-Flat Major\I Presto.mp3 and file names relative to the parent directory, such as: Opus 0\Quartet in E-Flat Major\I Presto.mp3 but neather work. What form should the file names take in this case? Cyril Posted by: Magnus Brading on Sep. 22 2003,17:49 It works with all three kinds: only filename, relative path and full path, you just have to specify which you have in your file. Default is only filename, but in advanced mode you can use the fields <Target file RP> (relative path) and <Target file AP> (absolute path) in the templates too. To see which template fields are available in a certain tool, simply activate advanced mode and right-click the template field, you will then get a menu from which you can choose all available fields. There is also additional info in the help file about all the fields, for all the tools in Mp3/Tag Studio. Posted by: calberga on Sep. 22 2003,18:15 I tried it with <Album> | <Target file AP> but I still get "File to be Tagged did not exist". The addresses in question were generated by the "Create List" operator, and haven't been changed. Could it be that the spaces in the addresses are giving the program a problem? Posted by: Magnus Brading on Sep. 22 2003,22:05 I just tried the exact same operation that you're describing, and it worked perfectly (creating a list of a directory, using the template "<Artist> | <Filepath absolute>", and then using the list tagger tool with the template "<Artist> | <Target file AP>" based on that list). Do you get one error message for each file in the list, or only one error message in total? Did you maybe just forget to remove the first line of the list, containing the column names (this can also be configured from the settings)? Posted by: calberga on Sep. 23 2003,01:18 1. I get the message for each and every file in the list. 2. The header line has been removed. Should I e-mail you the file in question? Or can you suggest any further tests. Note, I have tried to run this with mp3/Tag "looking" at the top level directory in the tree, and at the top level of the drive (D:\ ![]() What should I try now, doctor? CNA Posted by: Magnus Brading on Sep. 23 2003,22:09 Sure, send me the file and I'll take a look. ![]() Also include the exact template used in the list tagger tool. Posted by: calberga on Sep. 27 2003,04:33 Well, it was all my fault. There is no problem with Mp3Tag. I had made a couple of errors which I didn't see until I tried to pare the problem down to the smallest possible case, then the tree of error jumped out of the forest of confusion. I'm so embaressed by the simplicity of it all that I won't even admit to what I did wrong! My thanks to the magnaimous Magnus for his help, futile though it was, as my errors weren't apparent in anything I told him. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Sep. 27 2003,14:36 ![]() end |
