-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: winxp - mp3 tag started by sheik Posted by: sheik on Aug. 17 2003,11:34 i am using winxp and the problem i have is not a missbehaviour of mp3 tag studio but a error in winxp: the comment tag can't be written with any mass tag software anymore. existing comment tags are not visible anymore with windows explorer. the only way to change the comment tag is with windows explorer. for me the conclusion of this: the comment tag is somewhere else as before (before winxp messed it up). to make it more clear: - When i change the comment tag with mp3 tag studio, the comment tag is not visible with windows explorer (comment tag is empty). all other tags seems ok. - When i change the comment tag with windows explorer the comment tag is correct in mp3 tag studio and is correct in windows explorer. same effect with others mass mp3 tag renamer. so i think it's a problem with winxp but perhaps somebody here has an idea how i could fix that before i reinstall winxp. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 17 2003,14:12 It would be great if you could send two such identical files by email to me (the information above is not complete, since large parts of it is binary and will not be displayed correctly in a text based forum like this). Just like in your example above, please let them have he exact same contents, with the only difference that one is written with Mp3/TS and one is written with Explorer. I will then be able to analyze what Explorer is up to. Thanks. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 17 2003,22:49 I have now analyzed the files you sent me, and this is what I found: 1. The so called "language descriptor" of the ID3v2 tag comment field that is written with Explorer is set to German, while Mp3/Tag Studio defaults to English (like most taggers). It would seem like Windows Explorer makes the (rather inconvenient) choice of ignoring all comment fields with language descriptors that differs from the language of the operating system. Since you have a German Windows version, it seems to ignore the English comments. 2. The file that was written in Explorer also contains an extra (invalid) empty comment frame, but my guess would be that it is the language descriptors that cause your problem, and not this issue. Anyway, I will talk to some of the responsible developers at Microsoft about this, and see what they have to say about it. I'll get back with their replies later (if they don't want to comment it here in the forum themselves of course). Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 18 2003,13:25 Here's what the Microsoft guys says about it: ---------------------QUOTE------------------- For XP, it will depend on the current locale setting. The comment from the current locale will be displayed, which means you can get different results depending on which machine it's viewed on. The advanced tag editor in windows media player should list all of the comments. ---------------------QUOTE------------------- Seems like there might be a problem for you to display the "normal" English comments in Explorer without changing your operating system's locale. Posted by: locale settings on Aug. 18 2003,15:17 ok, you are right. i changed the locale setting to american english and what a wonder....i looks good. what i still don't understand is that it worked before with swiss german settings. end |
