First of all I love the ability to create macros and have been using them a lot!

However, as I create more and more macros I have wanted the ability to view, copy and/or edit existing macros. I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to just be able to see what steps a macro does, so I can create another one that is similar but with only a small change, etc.

Do you have any plans for this type of thing?

It would be very cool if a macro could be put into "edit mode" and as you go from one step to another within the macro have the MP3 TagStudio window change to show each step. For example, if the first step in a macro is to do a "Mass set tags/filters" to set the genre to "Rock", the MP3/Tag Studio window would switch to that tab and the Genre field would be populated with "Rock", etc.

If you wanted to make a change, like change Rock to "Classic Rock" for example, you could do that while in "edit mode" of the macro.

I'm not sure if this is something that is even possible. If it's not, or as an interim solution, it would be almost as good if a macro could be exported to a text file of some sort (xml, csv, ???) that could then be edited and then re-imported back into mp3ts.

The reasons I need this:
1. to 'remember' what I did to get a macro to work, what the steps were, etc.
2. to be able to copy an existing macro, make changes and save it and/or import it as a new macro with a new name.
3 to be able to borrow parts of a macro or macros to build new macros.

thanks for the great product!! and thanks for taking the time to read this and consider whether something like this would be possible for a future release of mp3/ts.

I'm glad you like the macros, and yes, I've felt the urge for this feature several times myself too. :) Sadly, it would be quite time consuming to implement an easy-to-use macro editor, so it's a bit down on the todo-list at the moment, but it's on the list. :)

And just so you know, the macro files are already in text format, and they have a structure very much resembling Windows ini-files, so you can easily open them up in e.g. Notepad and view/edit their contents, no problem.

I didn't even think to look at the .mtm files! I just did and it appears that what I was looking for is all there. I guess I didn't expect that these files would be ascii text files.

It'll be nice when there is a macro editor built-in, but in the mean time it looks like I can get what I need by just looking at the files.

Thanks again!

While you're playing around with the macro files, I can recommend that you take a look at the advanced macro parameters feature, you might find it useful if you're already a fan of the normal macros, and may even be able to assist you in remembering what your macros are doing... :)
