Hi,

Can anyone throw any light on the Grid Index out of range error I've suddenly started getting in Beta 17 (registered) this evening, it appears to be affecting just about every function in the name and tag tools...

Select a function, click on execute, and up pops a message box saying "Grid index out of range" and then the percentage complete bar just sits there at 0% with an egg timer  :(

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Cheers for now,

This strange bug has been reported on very rare occasions before, and noone has been able to reliably reproduce it. In most cases it has just disappeared again by itself all of a sudden, like e.g. in this case:

It certainly was wierd, upgrading to Beta 18 didn't fix it, uninstalling and re installing didn't fix it, but uninstalling, deleting the remains from Program Files, cleaning up the registry dust and re-installing did...  :)

As you say, very strange...

This bug just started happening to me with version 3.5 (beta 20), I have upgraded to beta 21 but it still happens.

These are the events which preceded the problem:

1. I selected an mp3 file and right-clicked to choose: "Edit this file in mp3/tag Studio"

2. I performed two functions on all files in the directory:
A. auto tag (from filenames)
B. auto rename (from tags)

3. Navigated away from the current directory using the Explorer 'browse tree' inside mp3/tag Studio

4. Deleted the directory that I had just operated on.

5. Without quitting mp3/tag studio, I opened another directory in Windows Explorer and again selected an mp3 file and right clicked to choose: "Edit this file in mp3/tag Studio"

I did not expect mp3/tag Studio to initiate another instance of the application; I had assumed that it would simply update to allow me to edit a different file / directory, but instead I saw another instance launch - this is where the problems began.

>1st PROBLEM appeard:

6. An ALERT box appeared, saying "using defaults", and something I can't remember exactly, about not being able to read settings.

I dismissed the alert and quit the first instance of the program so that I could go ahead and edit the files I was working on.

7. As before, I performed the function "auto tag (from filenames)"

Since there was a jpg file in the directory with the mp3's, I got the usual error dialog about the jpg file not matching the expected name format I had chosen.

>2nd PROBLEM appeared:

The error dialog was too large for my monitor, extending vertically so far off screen below that the 'OK' button was not visible - there was no 'resize' box or any way to grab the corner to resize the dialog since the bottom corners were off-screen. The only way I could fix this problem was to attach a second monitor directly below my main monitor so that I could view corners of the dialog and drag to resize it onto my main monitor.

8. I next attempted to perform the function "auto rename (from tags)"

>3rd PROBLEM appeard:

"Grid index out of range" Alert appears, which I dismiss, but a busy 'hour glass' cursor and progress of "0%" just hangs there and I have to quit the program using the close box.

I tried rebooting the computer, but the problem persists: I can no longer execute the 'auto rename' function from within the mp3/tag Studio application. I tried deleting some of the .und files inside the application folder but this did not help either.

I have reproduced this error many times, operating on different mp3 files / directories.

Fortunately, I can still execute the 'auto rename' function by accessing it from the Windows Explorer context (right click) menu.

I would be happy to help test any fixes or contribuite to helping reproduce it. I have been using this software since 2005 and love it - this is the first time this bug has happened but I can't seem to shake it loose :-(.

Did you try to reset the Mp3/Tag Studio settings, as suggested above? They might have become corrupted, so please try to delete the file "mp3ts.dat" in the installation folder of Mp3/Tag Studio, and try again (back it up first if you want).

Also, please never close several instances of Mp3/Tag Studio in quick succession, that might corrupt the settings.
