-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Comments Field stubborn... started by TheHYPO Posted by: TheHYPO on Sep. 16 2005,08:54 First off, I'm calling this a bug, even though it seems it may not be a bug - but at least something that could be made to work more smoothly in later versions. I have some mp3s which contain a 'comment' field (in this case, id3v2 - I am NOT certain whether this bug relates to comments in id3v1). In my case, I have no v1 tag existing in the mp3s (and have tried the program with the 'when possible, perform on both tags' setting both on and off. I have primary id3 version as v2. I simply want the comment gone. Blank. Wiped out. This should be simple but it's not. Mass set of the comments to "" (a field with nothing in it) fails to erase the text. Mass Cleanup fails to erase it. Direct manipulation of any blank tag copying to comments or comments v2 does nothing. Copy of comments from a blank v1 comment (that I create) does nothing. I investigated further and found that in the browse/edit tag section, the Comment is indeed blank; however, on the advanced id3v2 info checkbox subscreen, there is a 'Comment (COMM)' field that contains the stubborn info. (it has a description of 'MusicMatch_TrackArtist' - so I assume whoever ripped this did it with MM, and it has embedded its own comment field that overrides the real comment field (such that my winamp shows this comment as the 'comment' in it's id3 window) How can I mass delete this tag in a large number of files? Thanks ![]() Posted by: Magnus Brading on Sep. 16 2005,09:51 Just like you say, it is because of the non-empty content descriptor of your comment field. The comment field with an empty content descriptor is normally defined as the comment field, and the rest of them are extras. Some applications like Winamp may display the extra comment fields in the original comment field box if there isn't one with an empty content descriptor though. One way to get rid of them in Mp3/Tag Studio in an automated fashion would be to export the wanted tag fields to a text file (with the create custom lists tool), then delete the entire tag, and then import the exported fields from the list again. It can be automated by recording the whole process into a macro, from then on being accessed by a single mouse click. Posted by: APIC on Feb. 05 2006,01:47 I think the above would work, however, it doesn't take into account there may be a picture (coverart) frame (APIC) that can't be exported to a list...therefore, when deleting the tag, you delete the attached picture as well...:( Any update on when we'll be able to "mass clean up" the "COMM" frames? ![]() Omzig10 Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 07 2006,11:41 Yes, this is a known special case problem. Please see the reply to your other thread about this. end |
