-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: RealOne uses different tags than standard tags. started by denis Posted by: denis on Dec. 10 2002,23:24 I have been trying to use RealOne (from www.real.com) recently (just got a Sony MiniDisc and they have a driver). When I imported my library in RealOne, I got some funny results with the classification of the clips. My library was generated over the years ripping CDs using tools such as RealJukebox, MusicMatch, RealOne, etc... I recently went through all 8000 files to clean the MP3 tags up and recategorize the albums (right artists names, fewer "genres"). I have been using MusicMatch and MP3Studio during that time and when I created a library in RealOne everything became screwy. For example, even though a MP3 file genre tag was set to "soundtrack", it imported into a "Film Score" genre in RealOne. After poking around it seems that all the files that were ripped using Real products have an extra frame in the MP3 header. When I removed this frame, the file imported correctly in RealOne. The frame shows as a "General encapsulated Object" in MP3Studio. I was wondering if: - anyone has verified this? - whether there is a way to batch remove all the offending frames and still preserve the extra frames like pictures (album cover art) that have been added on some of the files? I have put a sample file on < http://www.megapathdsl.net/~denisc/mp3 > for those who are interested in looking at the problem. Thank you for your help. Denis woodsidesailor@yahoo.com Posted by: Magnus Brading on Dec. 10 2002,23:53 ---------------------QUOTE------------------- I was wondering if: - anyone has verified this? ---------------------QUOTE------------------- Yes, Real Player (and related Real applications) store data in the tags using a proprietary binary data format, inserted in the ID3v2 tags as a GEOB frame, just like you say. ---------------------QUOTE------------------- - whether there is a way to batch remove all the offending frames and still preserve the extra frames like pictures (album cover art) that have been added on some of the files? ---------------------QUOTE------------------- Of course. ![]() In Mp3/Tag Studio, go to the "Mass clean up tags" tool. Check the box "more fields..." under the ID3v2 tag options. In the dialog that will appear, activate one field and select "General encapsulated object (GEOB)" as the frame type. Upon processing, this will remove all GEOB frames in all files, while keeping all other frame types (like e.g. "Attached picture (APIC)" frames). There might of course be some other program than Real Player storing data in GEOB frames, but I don't think I have ever seen any. If any of your files, contrary to expectation, would have one of these "non-Real GEOB frames", it is most likely of no use to you anyway, so the risk that its removal will cause any problems is quite small. I'll try the cleanup thing. As far as Real products goes, I am not a fan, but as bad as RealOne is, it is still miles ahead of Sony own crap... (you have to try OpenMG to believe it). It's too bad, because the MiniDisc products which now offer a 32x download mode is I a pretty compleing alternative to flash based MP3 players (5 hours of music on a $1 disc, 50 hours of battery life, pretty much the same size, weight, price as regular MP3 players...)
