I don't understand why CDDB/freedb support is missing,
without it you can't truly provide the best tagging service.  If you look at how MusicMatch super tagging works, any piece of the ID can be used to help discover the entire ID.  E.g. if all you have is Title=Vermillion, it'll present all ID's with that title to choose from.
You REALLY need this, internet connectivity to freedb is really pretty easy programmatically if you take a good look at it.  Try out the new online software service Krugle for help.

My only comment is that when I rip a CD using EAC and let it look at the on-line data bases I have to very carefully check all the data.  And, I usually find multiple errors in title/album/artist etc.  When I get a set of mp3 files which have been tagged using the databases I ALWAYS search Amazon (US, France, UK, etc.) for the album, and usually have to correct errors.

I think it is dangerous, if you are interested in correctly tagged files, to depend on the online databases, no one checks them, and you will (probably) find that the contributors are not as careful and accurate as you are.

Yep, that's one of my main objections against them too, and thus, why I don't use them.

Unless your converting 300 vintage LP's to MP3 - the database lookup saves hours and hours of time!

But there is really no problem using a web database, because after you select a matching record you should be able to edit the record if there are any mistakes before committing.

Unfortunately, with my music being from actual record albums that I own, the online databases are more wrong than right.  Automatic updates yield album art for CDs, instead of the original works, the artist/title combination gets matched to a "best of" compilation that's only two years old, instead of the original 1959 release, etc.  With that much "fixing" to do, it's easier to just use Tag Studio for all of it.  I can type from scratch a lot faster than highlighting and replacing.   :D
