+---Topic: User error or Parsing bug? started by beefish

I've been using MP3TS to help me with my task of ripping/encoding my collection of 800+ cd's.  So far it has been great, so I registered it.

I love the program, but I have run into something that is causing me to have to do double work.  Sometimes when I use the "Direct Rename Files", I get an error "Unable to parse filename ..." on certain files.  I have noticed that the problem seems to occur consistently based on the length of the file name.  I'm not sure if it's a bug, or if I have something wrong with my parsing templates.  Below are detailed examples.   Could someone else try them out and see if the errors are reproducible?

I have the following files in folder "D:\My New Work\":
AnyArtist~2003-AnyAlbum~00 13_charsxx~.mp3
AnyArtist~2003-AnyAlbum~00 14_charsxxx~.mp3
AnyArtist~2003-AnyAlbum~00 15_charsxxxx~.mp3
AnyArtist~2003-AnyAlbum~00 16_charsxxxxx~.mp3
AnyArtist~2003-AnyAlbum~00 17_charsxxxxxx~.mp3
AnyArtist~2003-AnyAlbum~00 18_charsxxxxxxx~.mp3

I select the folder in the tree view and go to the "Direct rename files" tab.  I uncheck "Case fix and replace" and check "Use filtering".  I select a filter for only files with extension "mp3".  Then I try the following combinations of expected and output file names:

Expected file name:
"<Artist>~<Album>~<Title>~.mp3"
Output file name:
"D:\My New Work<\><Artist><\><Album><\><Title>.mp3"
- generates error on 14 char title

Expected file name:
"<Artist>~<Album>~<TrackNr> <Title>~.mp3"
Output file name:
"D:\My New Work<\><Artist><\><Album><\><Title>.mp3"
- generates error on 17 char title
Output file name:
"D:\My New Work<\><Artist><\><Album><\><TrackNr> <Title>.mp3"
- generates error on 15 char title

Expected file name:
"<Artist>~<Year>-<Album>~<TrackNr> <Title>~.mp3"
Output file name:
"D:\My New Work<\><Artist><\><Album><\><Title>.mp3"
- generates error on 17 char title
Output file name:
"D:\My New Work<\><Artist><\><Album><\><TrackNr> <Title>.mp3"
- generates error on 15 char title
Output file name:
"D:\My New Work<\><Artist><\><Year>-<Album><\><TrackNr> <Title>.mp3"
- generates error on 16 char title

Thanks for the report.
It was a bug, and I have now found and fixed it. It will work fine in the next update.

Wow Magnus, that was fast work!  You Da Man!

Any idea when the next release will come out?  Can I get a beta of the fixed version?

Thanks!

I'm not sure when it will be released, but here's a tip that will solve the problem for you until then:

Just don't use the absolute path mode for your output templates. Since you are renaming to the same directory that the files are originally in, it is unnecessary in any case. So, instead of the output template "D:\My New Work<\><Artist><\><Album><\><Title>.mp3", simply use "<Artist><\><Album><\><Title>.mp3" instead.
end
