Portable? CD's in the car? Straight off your computer? Piped to the home stereo? I'll start it off: Mainly off of my computer since that's where I work. Optical out to a VideoLogic Scirocco, Audio-Technica headphones for the neighbors' sake ![]() I have a portable as well, but don't use it frequently. How about you? Posted by: Magnus Brading on May 15 2003,12:51 Straight off the computer, since it's practically always on when I'm at home anyway (Creative Soundworks 4-way speaker system). Also, my beloved computer would never forgive me if I started to mess around with other appliances. ![]() When I'm moving around, I prefer listening to radio rather than mp3:s/CDs/Minidisc, because it's such a pain to keep loading those portable players with enough stuff not to get sick of it. ![]() Posted by: Disposable Hero on May 15 2003,19:46 It's lucky that you're in an area with decent radio to listen to. The radio situation in the US is pretty grim. Many (most?) of the stations are owned by one or two corporations... who suck. That's if you're lucky enough to be near a major population center. Rural areas are often condemned to the bleak nightmare of 'country' "music".. <shudder> I haven't deliberately listened to the radio in 6 or 7 years ![]() Posted by: bothersome on June 29 2003,19:11 and then you have the king of it all!!! 8000 country mp3's!! fully sorted and tagged! That you can listen to anywhere, anytime... I shudder because I can't get country music radio in England. Now that's music! Posted by: Elbow on July 15 2003,06:55 I burn to disc and listen on my mp3 discman. Sometimes I play them on my PC but most of the time Im watching dirty movies on that thing. ![]() Posted by: Elbow on July 15 2003,06:56 ---------------------QUOTE BEGIN------------------- I shudder because I can't get country music radio in England. Now that's music! ---------------------QUOTE------------------- Arent you the lucky one. Posted by: noddy on Feb. 19 2004,11:22 I am a recording engineer. I have a modest home studio, with a set of Tannoy Reveal monitors hanging off the wall above the PC. They're being driven by an NAD Monitor Series 2100 power amp. I can listen here, or I can send the signal out to the loungeroom. I rip all my stuff at 320kbit (using Lame, of course! ![]() For mobile listening (on an iRiver portable CD/MP3 player), I transcode the 320kbit MP3's to 160kbit. And before everyone jumps up and down and says I shouldn't do that, believe me, on a train or a bus, or walking through Sydney, you can't tell the difference. Cheers, Bruce. end |
