-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Modifying files? Virus? What? started by Sebastian Posted by: Sebastian on Mar. 17 2005,01:38 I had the unlimited ad version of Mp3/Tag Studio when, yesterday, I got an error saying my "30 day trial period" had expired. So I redownloaded and reinstalled the unlimited ad version: now a day later when I open it I get message about not messing around with files and that if I havn't modified anything, "I might have a virus." ...except I don't have any 'viruses,' and this is the second strange glitch I've gotten with this brand new version. *** I just downgraded to an earlier version and a few hours later am getting the same exact message. There must be some other solution other than, "You have a virus." Help! ![]() Posted by: Magnus Brading on Mar. 17 2005,10:16 If it works at first, and then gets these problems after a while, it would really seem like something in your system is modifying the files, either a virus and maybe a faulty harddisk or something like that. If you send me a copy of your Mp3/Tag Studio executable file (inside a zip file, otherwise it won't reach me), I can check if it has been modified in any way. As a sidenote, just because your antivirus software doesn't find any viruses, it doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have one. I can recommend the program < All-Seeing Eye > (which I'm also the author of) for detecting viruses and malware in a more generic way. Posted by: Sebastian on Mar. 17 2005,13:08 He he he! Alright, I will download your program as well and give it a run. I have a 100+ gig hard disk that is pretty full and I am unable to even defragment 'cause my system says the disk's too big, so what you're saying is very likely. ![]() I'll run All-Seeing Eye before bugging you with emails. Thanks again. ![]() Posted by: Magnus Brading on Mar. 17 2005,23:59 Ok, sounds good. In that case, do like this: 1. Re-install Mp3/Tag Studio. 2. Install All-Seeing Eye. 3. Set the "Filesystem Guard" of All-Seeing Eye to guard the Mp3/Tag Studio installation directory, including file contents. Now ASE will alert you as soon as any file in the Mp3/Tag Studio directory is modified, even at one single byte. end |
