The ArtistAlbum ID3v2 tag field has gained wide spread usage including iTunes and Windows Media Player, as a quick Google of those keywords will show.

Any plans to implement support for that tag field directly in Tag Studio? It's widely enough adopted now, that its omission from Tag Studio is becoming an issue.

As always - thanks for a great program, STILL love it to bits - keep up the good work.

The thing that makes it not fit nicely into most of the mass processing tools of Mp3/Tag Studio is that all other input in these is text based. The browse tool can already extract images from the tags, but I guess I could make it be able to write them too.

I think we are talking about two different things (were you thinking I meant the [APIC] tag?). Artist/album is a repurpose of the existing [TPE2] tag. It is primarily being used now for Various Artist type albums with an overall artist for the compilation. This is especially significant with DJ-type mix albums, where the individual tracks have the original artist, but the album overall has a different artist. ie. the ArtistAlbum field. [TPE2] can be set/accessed already in MP3TS but it's buried down in the additional tags area.

As [TPE2] has been broadly repurposed as an "Album/Artist" field rather than its original purpose of "Band/Orchestra/Accompaniment" it is now quite widely used, and deserves a place on the main dialogue screens of MP3TS.

There are some other tag fields being used by iTunes, (which by sheer numbers is driving use of [TPE2] and other fields e.g. [TCMP] for a compilation album and [COMM] with an iTunPGAP =1 setting for gapless playback of the track(s),) that perhaps aren't ready for special treatment (though worth monitoring for the future), but [TPE2] imho has reached critical mass and is worthy of elevation to the main screens.

best regards,

tB

:)

BTW. There is no way in MP3TS to add a [COMM] frame as iTunes does, it's missing as a choice from the "Add new frame..." and "Additional ID3V2 tags to set..." dialogues

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding, my bad. Anyway, since Mp3/Tag Studio is primarily a mass tagger/renamer, I'd rather have just a few fields in the main dialogs not to clutter them up, and allow for the rest in advanced mode. Although iTunes may be popular, there are still a lot of mp3 dinosaurs like me around who won't like those new fancy fields of the day. ;) Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

About the comment fields, yes, I know this, I just never bothered to implement addition of multiple comment fields, since I think it is just annoying when mp3s have that. :p

Hmm, this isn't an iTunes thing, although iTunes does support it. I mentioned google in my initial post as it will show just how widespread its usage really is now. You'll see over 50 pages of hits. It is very much in common use, clearly more than a fad at this point, which is why I waited so long to even mention it here. I've been using it the hard way for probably over 2 years now.

I brought this up as TPE2 is really difficult to access from the common dialogues. For example it's completely missing from Direct Tag manipulation.

I just double checked the Direct Tag Manipulation tool, and the TPE2 field is indeed selectable there (in advanced mode, just like from the other tools, as mentioned above)?

I for one would really like to see the [TCMP] tag added... I think that I've read in your support documentation, Magnus, that you are dedicated to the id3 standard, which would make this addition inappropriate.

It would be nice if I could add it as a nonstandard tag, however... perhaps there is a way to do this but I haven't found it?

Magnus,

My bad, I should have checked Advanced mode  :ashamed:

I'd still like to see more options for bringing these increasingly popular tags onto the main screens instead of tucked away though...

Configurable UI anyone?

Hello,

I would like to add my vote to the request for support of the TCMP tag.

I use MP3TS exclusively for management of my MP3s, and to date this is the first time I have found something that it does not support!

The TCMP tag is the 'Is this part of a compilation' tag used by iTunes and iPod, which are of course increasingly popular!

I would like to be able to set the TCMP through the 'Tag From List' function, but I would also like to be able to set the TPE2, TPUB, TCOM and TCMP tags through the Browse / Edit Tags function.

Thanks in advance

Cheers
