This is what I want to do.
I have a bunch of files that have nothing in the album field. The album field on the rest of my mp3s is right. All I want to do is mass edit the album field of the mp3s without any info and replace the blanks with something else, like "uknown" or "none" or something.
album: [blank] ---> album: unknown
I played with the filters, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Simply perform a mass tag that sets the album field to "unknown". Apply a filter with "Filter tag contents" --> "Album" --> "Equal to" and leave the input box empty. That should do exactly what you want.

Or try the MusicBrainz tagger to be found at < www.musicbrainz.org >. It's like freedb.org or cddb for mp3s. Really great to recover mp3 tags.

I would never trust one of those tools to correctly tag a bunch of files, without having to verify them manually afterwards. Also, a certain track can be present on several albums, so one might actually want the album field to be set to "none" or "unknown" instead of a guess from CDDB, and in that case such a tool would not help at all. Like the saying goes, if you want something done properly, you'll have to do it yourself.

Actually it works that way. It tries to identify the mp3 from an hash value and the tag information. It's an own database. Before you save the changes you can review the results.
If something is misidentified you simply search for the album in the website frame within the program an get a track list. Each track has a little "tag" icon, with which it is possible to tag the selected file. After that you should submit the hashes.
I know my english and describing skills lack a bit..
Best is to look at the program.
