+---Topic: Explorer Shell some suggestion.. started by Nuff

Hey great program, think ill buy it soon, without it handling my mp3 player would be a huge pain in the ass.

I have some suggestions and problems for the ' Shell', but maybe im just missing something on some points:

- If you use Right Click -> mp3tag -> Retag assumed; it does'nt do Case Fix nor replace _ with a space, it only retags.. maybe it should also include the other settings?

- I think the errors/warnings when it find a non .mp3 when retagging through shell are worth nothing.. and its best if the program ignored non .mp3 files, or at least a option to set it so.

- A small progress window (option) when it is busy retagging from Shell, wich also takes the load of the Windows Explorer window since now it freezes (here).. im talkin just a very small progress window:  just the % and like with what number track its busy from how many, i.e 'Done 16 of 54 selections..'   ' done 17 of 54 selections' or something like that.

- I always do the same action, maybe the shell should be 'editable'  so it is possible when right click on a folder or select some mp3s i just see 'mp3tag', no suboptions, and when clicked it will for me do the Retag+case+replace and other options..

what do you think?

Thanks for your feedback.

The casefix settings of the shell are accessed from the "Use casefix/string-replace for the operations below" submenu.

About the warnings and progress meter, the shell extension is meant to be very lightweight and fast, for use when you know exactly what operations to perform on a few files. If you want the whole shebang with progress meter and error/warning reporting, you can use the menu option to start mp3 tag studio for the selected files instead. I'm trying to keep them a little separated like that, even though I do indeed understand what you mean.

I'm not sure how to implement the "quick shortcut" menu options in a way that is easily configurable to the user, but I'll give it some thought anyway.

Yea ok...  i just use the studio instead of shell ... but what i said was it NOW has error/warning reporting, i dont WANT it, it gives a error everytime it see's a non .mp3 file in a folder.. saying something like 'Unexpected format blabla.jpg'  Ok'.
But no option to not show that error again..

If i buy the program will i get a patch or something?

Ah, ok, sorry for the misunderstanding. I will consider adding an option for removing those error/warning messages, thanks for the suggestion.

And yes, when you purchase a license of Mp3/Tag Studio, it will always be a lifetime-license, giving you access to all future versions and upgrades, so don't worry about buying it too soon. ;)

i read you doing a GUI rewrite also ? because now it everything flickers when starting on XP.. when is that commin?

also can I pay via paypal?

and will the register also remove the LARGE mp3 tag logo?  if not i recommand making it a bit smaller ;>

The initial GUI rewrite should primarily fix the problems with High-DPI / "Large font" setups, and should be in the next update, I cannot give any exact time estimates for when it will be released though.

And no, you cannot pay through Paypal, but all well-known credit card brands work fine.

And about the logo, it only covers the status window when it is not used, so it doesn't really take up any useful space, so it's actually not as bad as it looks on first glance. :)

problem is... i dont have a creditcard..(most people in europe dont have one))

There are several additional methods of registering too, please see the "Register" section of the Mp3/Tag Studio website at < http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts > for more info about alternative ways of registering.

And just out of curiosity, doesn't Paypal require you to have a credit card to use their service in the first place? :)

or you can put money on your account via bank...  but its free and easy to make a account so i dont see why you dont?

i think i maybe send some money through mail... if you except euro's .....?

still i think paypal is best way to pay over internet

Sure, euros are ok. And about Paypal, the last time I checked, they had some nasty fees and other downsides for non-US residents, which was why I didn't create an account.

Magnus - I'm a longtime licensed user and very much love the power and flexibility of MP3TS, thanks for a great product!

I have a question regarding the "Use casefix/string-replace for the operations below" submenu.

The only one listed is Standard English title case rules. Is that configurable somewhere? I would like to be able to remove underscores (_) as the other poster mentioned but it does not do it using that case rule.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sure, all presets you save inside the program (from the casefix settings box, accessible from all tools that can use casefixing) will automatically show up in the shell extension.

Thanks... I'd never actually gone into the Casefix setup section. I'd always used the checkbox on the main form to Replace Underscores with space.

Recieved the money yet?  (must its more then a week ago i sent it)
Posted by: Magnus Brading on Mar. 30 2005,21:43

Nope, nothing yet, but you can rest assured that the license info will be sent to you as soon as they arrive here.

Also, please do not discuss any further license related questions in this forum. All such issues should be handled by email.

You didnt respond to the mail....but ok
Posted by: Magnus Brading on Mar. 31 2005,07:05

Ok, that's strange, it must have gotten lost on the way (e.g. in a spam filter or something), I normally answer all emails quickly. Sorry about that if the mistake was on my side.
