-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Directory path in Create List/Rename from List started by calberga Posted by: calberga on Dec. 12 2007,17:21 I seem to have forgotten or missed something. I'm trying to rename some files and want to go from: old-filename to: <album> - <artist>\old-filename. I couldn't figure out how to do this from Rename from Tags, as there was no way to specify the old-filename that I could see. I then tried to use Create Custom List. When I realized the "Rename from List" didn't allow anything but "old filename" and "new filename", no real templates, I redid the list with an (advanced mode) template of: <filename> | <album> - <artist>\<filename> but the \ seemed to be illegal, at least the template turned red. I then tried quoting the \, as "\", and then '\', but in either case the \ vanished, and only the quotation marks were placed in the list. At that point I gave up and edited the list, changing "" to \, and the result worked. But, shouldn't I have been able to do this renaming without hand massaging the list? Or, even better, without a list at all? Enlighten me, oh master! Posted by: Magnus Brading on Dec. 17 2007,20:18 When a template field is set to advanced mode, you can always right-click it to bring up a selection menu of all available template tags for it. Oh, and backslashes in templates are expressed with the "<\>" tag, not with a raw backslash. Use the following template in the auto rename tool, for what you want: <album> - <artist><\><OldFileName> Posted by: calberga on Dec. 18 2007,00:59 Ah! Thank you. I did know about <\>, but the neurons are getting old and worn, thanks for the reminder. I DIDN'T know that <Oldfilename> as available.
