I've noticed this problem a while back and was hoping 3.0 would fix it, but I'm not sure what it is now. Certain mp3's I get have ID3v2 tags, so I mass remove them and put on v1 tags only. But when i play the song, it shows the old v2 tag. I check it and there is no v2 tag. I have also tried writing over the v2 tag and then removing it, but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Woody: Just to be clear, are you using the Mass Clean Up Tags tool, and checking Remove Tag and Delete All Frames?

My guess is that these files contain some other source of information other than ID3 tags, e.g. Lyrics tags.
If you send me a sample of a file with this problem I can analyze it for you.

For everyone's information, the file did indeed contain a Lyrics tag. Gotta hate 'em...

Hello,
First of all - thank you VERY much for a great program, It has been extremly useful.
However:
I have a similar problem, I use Windows Media Player to play my music (yeah I know, but it was right there and it was available :-) )
So I have corrected the tags in all the MP3 Files I have. However a small number of them I just can't get to work correctly. I assume Windows Media Player won't read the MP3 tags correctly, usually the songs show up with the correct track number, correct title, artist and album. But these files just show up under Title with the whole filename usually:
Artist - Album - Track No. - Title.mp3
When I look at the file with MP3 Tag Studio, the file tags looks Ok (the same as the other songs in the album, which shows up corretly in Windows Media Player)
I have tried to repair the file, using 'Simple CR/LF fix', it apparently works, but the file doesn't show up correctly.
When I use VBR header repair/add, it says:
MP3 headers out of sync for file .... aborting! Please repair the file with "Totally remove corrupt frames" and try again.
I then remove all tags on the file by using the Mass Clean Up Tags tool - then I recreate the Tags - still shows up faulty, AND the VBR header repair/add tool gives the same error message.
I have about 15 songs like that left - I had more, but they had some timing problems, I removed 0:01 sec at the end, at they got into sync and worked fine.
Any suggestions on how to get the files to work - SO annoying when a song doesn't show up under artist or the correct album.

I can analyze one of the files if you mail it to me.
But please note that you should NOT use the CR/LF fix for anything else than certain sound errors, and also always activate the backup feature when using it. It might otherwise damage the mp3 files.

The file you sent me has two apparent problems:
1.
It is not an mp3 file, it's an mp2 file (you can see this in Mp3/Tag Studio on the "layer" value in the "detailed mp3 info" box of the browse tool). This might also be what causes the file to be reported as out of sync by some of the tools (but point 2 below could also be the sole reason for that). All tools in Mp3/TS might not have full support for mp2 files. It might also be confusing to the MS Media Player.
2.
There is some trash in the end of the file, just before the ID3v1 tag. This might cause some players to get confused when they try to read this tag. This is most likely also why you were able to fix some of the files by cutting them in the end. The reason for why some of the files are harder to fix this way might be that mp3 cutting tools have problems to operate correctly on mp2 files.
PS. Yes, it is ok to mail the file to that address.

Thank you for the explanation on the file I mailed you. It is indeed an MP2 file.
Is there any way to convert from MP2 to MP3 - do you know of any tool to do so?
I Mentioned I had other files, which I couldn't get to show up correctly in Windows Media Player - I checked to see if these were MP2 files, however none of them were (funny I send you the only one I had of them :-).
However removing junk data before first MP3 frame fixed the problem on all the existing files.

Leif, I'm glad it worked out with the files. The best way to convert an mp2 to an mp3 would probably be to first convert it to wave format (with e.g. Winamp) and then re-encode it to mp3 with your favorite encoder.
Woody, yes, there are some support planned for reading and removing Lyrics tags in a future version.

I opened the file in Cool Edit Pro 1,2, and then I just saved it again in MP3 format, this worked, and now it finally shows up correctly :-)
