There are times when i can't for the sake of mind remeber what the name of the song is from the file name.
Would it be possible to have a lookup button that queries the local FreeDB or Online FreeDB to look up the closest match.
Then By clicking on the appropriate album Song Import it into the ID tags. This should have Track Number / Year / type etc all from the FreeDB database.

Note the freedb can be installed locally and Is GPL not like gracenotes CDDB

What do you mean with "freedb can be installed locally"? Do you have only your own database then, in which you insert all the content yourself, or what do you mean?

You can download the whole FreeCD database which details artist, song, album etc for cd's released.
It is normally used to to lookup the CD IDnumber from a music CD and fill in the ID3 Tags when creating/ripping Mp3s.
I was hoping to type or use the current filename to do a lookup in this database and show closest matches. Then link the the data to the MP3 and click update to update the naming of the MP3 and filling in the ID3 tag.

The reason I haven't added such database lookup support is just that, like you say, most such databases are centered around CD-specific properties like this, that cannot be extracted from single mp3:s (or even whole albums of mp3s) in a good and reliable way.
Some kind of database support is on my possible-feature-for-a-future-version list though. Thanks.

The value i would get from being able to access either cddb or freedb is to simply be able to update files containing older tags with new or additional informaton, especially once lyrics become more prevelant in tags
