LOL  I have my files setup as such: DriveLetter\My CD's mp3\<Artist>\<Year> - <Album>\<Artist> - <Album> - <TrackNr> - <Title>.mp3

When I have an mp3 with no tag info (converted from a .wav), and I try to use "Auto tag from filename", I cannot use my selected struture to tag the file.  When I use the check box mode, the only sequence I can build is: <Artist>\<Year> - <Album>\<TrackNr> - <Title>.mp3  If I use that format, the album title gets written into the year field.  When I try to use the advanced mode, I can get as far as: <Artist>\<Year> - <Album>\<TrackNr> - <Title>.mp3   but when I try to add in <Artist - <Album> immediately before the <TrackNr> field, the text goes red indicating invalid syntax.  The reason I use this particular naming convention is to keep the artist's album in as much chronological order as possible.  The only time it falls flat is if they release two albums in the same year.  Other than the above problem, this software has been perfect.

First of all, you should use "<\>" instead of "\".

Second, you should not enter absolute paths like that into the template.

Third, you cannot use the same field at several locations in a parse template like that, how should the program know which one to choose? (you can use multi-part parsing to the same field though, but that's more advanced and not what you want here).

Hence, the correct template would most likely in your case be:

<Year> - <TRASH><\><Artist> - <Album> - <TrackNr> - <Title>.mp3

Works like a charm.

Sorry, I mis-typed.  LOL  I did have it as <\>, I just forgot to indicate that here.  The only time I actually use an absolute path is under "Direct Rename Files" and it works like charm.  I didn't realize there was a <Trash> tag to ignore certain fields.  Off to try it now. . .    Well, that didn't work either.  I entered this: <Year> - <TRASH><\><Artist> - <Album> - <TrackNr> - <Title>.mp3 Checked "Preview Mode" and got this: Attached cropped screenshot

I cannot read your screenshot because it is too small. Please try to explain the problem instead, including an example filename and the template you're trying to use on it, what you expect to happen and what really happens instead.

My initial guess is that your filename format is not exactly the one you specify in the template anyway.

OKay, I figured out what I was doing wrong.  *slaps forehead*  I kept thinking that it was <Year> - <Album> but it was actually <Year> <Album> without the dash.  :ashamed:   LOL  But thanks for the heads up on the <TRASH> field.  I now remember seeing it and the first thing I thought was that it would delete the original field.  Everything's perfect now.  Well, actually it was perfect to begin with, I just didn't know how to use the fields properly.  LOL
