-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Suggestions +---Topic: Search and replace started by Simon Posted by: Simon on Mar. 24 2004,03:06 Magnus, the Studio has been the saviour to my MP3 collection. Thanks for such a great program. My simple (?) request is to be able to search and replace field across multiple files, directories and tags. cheers Simon Posted by: Magnus Brading on Mar. 24 2004,13:50 This can be done is several ways already, e.g. by combining the filter and the "Mass set tags/flags" tool, or by combining the "Substring replacements" feature of the "Case fix and replace" utility with the "Direct tag manipulation" tool. I'm glad you like the program. Posted by: dez93_2000 on Mar. 31 2004,22:30 Magnus, hi again (i'm registered now). Cheers for the reply; i'm still having some trouble though: i'm currently trying to edit the album tags in a bunch of folders, which are currently set to <artist - album> (i got them from a mate who has named them this way for some strange reason. why put the artist in the album tag as well? that's what the artist tag's for! anyway...). So yeah, i want to change them all from <artist - album> to <album>. After your suggestion i've been trying the substring replacements to try and delete everything before the break ( - ) using the boolean " - §", only i now realise that would only work for whole strings ending in " - ", which mine aren't. Can you think of a way to get the filter to pick these out, ideally something equating to a find&replace on the album tag, removing everything before & including the break? Thanks in advance. My current thought (if nothing else works) would be to: 1. autorename from tags to format <album> - <title> which, with my dodgy album tags, will look like <artist> - <album> - <title> 2. autotag from filenames with expected format <artist> - <album> - <title> 3. which would work but would be time consuming. unless i used filters. however, trying to setup a filter for part 1., i put in album > containing: - OR " - " but neither found any files. tried the same in album>advanced>containing, but it still didn't find anything. any idea why? each file does have " - " in the album tag. Assuming i can get this part to work, can i set up a filter to find files named in <artist> - <album> - <title> format? Cheers Magnus, your help always much appreciated. Simon Posted by: Magnus Brading on Mar. 31 2004,23:14 About the filter, are you sure that you did not mistakenly leave any other filter settings on? I just tried to filter for files containing "-" in the album field, and it worked perfectly? Also, another method of doing it would be to create a list of the format (using that filter): <Filepath absolute> ; <Album> ; <Title> And then import it to the tags with the following template (from the "Tag/rename from list" tool): <Target file AP> ; <Artist> - <Album> ; <Title> Then you don't have to modify the filenames inbetween. Btw, thanks for registering! end |
