+---Topic: Out of Memory started by Nick from New Zealand

Posted by: Nick from New Zealand on Sep. 27 2006,00:12

I have plenty of memory available, and I've not had any other memory issues with other programs on this machine.

When doing "auto tag" procedures mostly, I get this out of memory error and the program hangs.

I never used to have this problem, and I've had it happen when working with as few as 8 files at once.  :(

Any ideas?  I have nearly 1 gig of ram.

I've just determined this is happening on more than one PC.  Could the problem be in the fact I'm using an external IDE hard drive connected via USB?

Same for me with 3.5 b17

I tried "Auto tag from filenames" with the following string:
<Artist><\><Year> <Album><\>B<TrackNr>.mp3

I have 1GB memory with 512 MB physical (and 1 GB swap) available when I get the message.
If I add at least one file that does not match the filter, I can get to the preview, but real rename still fails.

Similar with tag/rename from list;
<Target file>;<Title>
with file contents:
B1.mp3;Song name

Fails after the preview

(note mp3tag requires case sensitive match for filenames, regardless if the underlying filesystem requires this)

Auto rename from tags works fine what I recall.
What I remember, the problem did not occur with 3.0

Magnus: Thanks for a very useful program.

This is a typical sign of heavily corrupted ID3v2 tags in the mp3 files in question. Isolate these files, then use the option in Mp3/Tag Studio to completely remove the ID3v2 tags of these files, and re-tag them. Then the problem should be fixed!

Clearing the ID3 tag helped. Thanks!
(I had to use another tool though...)

I tried my backup copy of 3.05 as well, the same problem, so this does not seem to be release dependent.

Unfortunately, mp3ts seems to be involved in corrupting the tags. The MP3 was created by Audacity with some non-useful information in idv2 fields only (add labels, use Export multiple..."). I then renamed using "Auto tag from filenames" and the file ended up with only v1 tags after this, and the tags seem to be corrupted.

In my case I can remove all tags before creating new ones, so I am fine.

PS
Is your PlusGiro still working? What is the current cost in SEK?
(The registration page for Nordic countries still specifies PostGiro, so I am not sure it works. You can email me details)
(For non-Nordic viewers: The service changed names a few years ago and the got more expensive.)

If you think that some operation in Mp3/Tag Studio corrupts the tag of some file (this has never been known to happen before), please send me a sample of this file, and instructions about how to reproduce it, and I will take a look.

Sorry for missing renaming PostGiro to PlusGiro, but it still works, and the price is still 199 SEK, just like the page says.
