-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Suggestions +---Topic: Mass Cleanup option requested started by calberga Posted by: calberga on Nov. 18 2007,15:43 I thought I had put this request in the queue before, but I don't see it, so if this is a repeat I apologize. Would it be possible to add an option or filter to the Mass Tag Cleanup process which would delete any non-standard V2 tag? I currently get lots of mp3 files with multiple Comment tags, and all sorts of junk that Mp3T/S doesn't handle, but with some V2 tags which I want to keep around (such as Composer). Currently, the only way I've figured out to clean house is to do a Create List, keeping the desired tag values, then delete ALL v2 tags, then Set Tags from List. And you know about my unhappiness with that sort of procedure! Either that, or a "delete all BUT the ones selected" switch. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Nov. 19 2007,12:11 More exactly what criteria would you define as a "non-standard v2 tag"? Posted by: calberga on Nov. 19 2007,15:11 For the purposes of Mp3/TS, any tag the name of which doesn't appear in the documentation or the drop-down menus. After all, if I am using mp3/TS exclusively (well, almost, I do use other programs to extract images, but then I delete them from the files) those are the only tags I can manipulate. So if any tag shows up with a name that isn't in the programs list, deep-six it! Actually, it was to get around that question that I appended the suggestion for a delete-all-but-checked option. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Nov. 19 2007,15:34 Have you seen the "Clear all additional ID3v2 fields" option inside the "More fields..." option in the mass clean tool? How does that differ from what you want? Also, some of the things you mention can indeed be edited in Mp3/Tag Studio in the "Advanced ID3v2 tag info" dialog of the browse tool, so it's a little hard to draw the exact line regarding what is "non-standard", which is also the reason I asked. Posted by: calberga on Nov. 19 2007,18:40 Perhaps I misinterpreted the "all additional fields" option. I looked to me as if that would only exclude the "Original Artist", "Composer", "Copyright", "Encoded by", and "URL". This isn't quite what I want. For example, "Lyricist" is one of the tags I do use and wish to keep. Can I do that as things stand? The only thing I mentioned was multiple comment tags. I hadn't tried editing those, so I didn't know that they were accessable. (I vaguely remembered some discussions where it seemed as if they weren't). It is the fields with names that are not in the list of choices in Clean-up tab, and which can only be deleted by deleting everything and then setting the tags one wants to keep. For example I have a file with a tag "TCP" which seems to be editable, but can't be specified in the "more" panel in the Clean-up tab. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Nov. 26 2007,09:39 Ok, I understand, this is all about non-ID3v2.3 fields, and multiple comments. I have put such a "remove non-ID3v2.3 frames" and "remove multiple comment fields" feature on the todo list now. Posted by: calberga on Nov. 26 2007,17:19 Many thanks! PS Should I hold my breath? Posted by: Magnus Brading on Nov. 26 2007,20:58 I won't release it within the next hour, so holding your breath is probably not recommended, no. ![]() Seriously though, it does have lots of other things to compete with on the todo list, but since it should be relatively easy to implement, and still quite useful, it should do pretty good compared to many other things on the list. end |
