Hello Magnus!

I've got some huge directories with lots of MP3 (i'm working at a radio station). I wanted to test your tool and found it very useful, but i've got one problem:

If i try to open a directory containing more than about 15'000 songs, MP3TS hangs for a while and after some minutes it disappears (crashes).

I've tested it onto different PC's and with different versions (in fact 3.05 and 3.5b8) runnging XP SP1 and SP2 and 512MB RAM.

Do you know something about this? Is it a limitation of the program?

Hmm, no, I didn't know this, and there shouldn't be any such limitation in my code anyway. I guess it might be some third-party component causing trouble, or maybe something completely different, not actually having to do with the number of mp3's.

Could you email me your mp3 collection so I can try to reproduce the problem?  :p

Nah, but seriously, do you have many directories like this, and it happens for all of them, or only some? Do you have any idea where the "limit" is, that is if it works fine for 14,000 songs in a dir, but not 15,000? Are there other files than mp3:s in these directories?

I have a similar problem with my collection of nearly 18,000 tracks.
I can’t run a process against the whole collection without it usually crashing.
Usually it will hang with me having no idea how far it had progressed.  Sometimes though it stops in such a way that I can see that it hung with a particular track.
In the later case I’ve assumed that a file with an error in it has caused the problem.

I’m in the process of tidying up my collection and before I archive it to DVD-R, I’m wondering if there’s a way to check it for errors?  Any ideas?

What kind of errors are you referring to (i.e. the ones you want to check for)?

ANY errors that impair the ability of the files to be played.

Recently, a not insignificant proportion of my files refuse to play in Windows Media Player 9.  They still play in my own MP3 player which is my main choice and also MusicMatch (piece of shit).
The only tool I’ve used to edit them is Tag Studio, although I don’t know if that is the cause of the problem.
I don’t know what type of errors can be detected or fixed, but I am concerned about the current state of my files.

Any ideas?

There has never been any problems reported with Mp3/Tag Studio files or tags. Rather Mp3/Tag Studio is known for its ability to write fully standard-compliant tags, being recommended by several hardware mp3 player vendors for correction of faulty or non-standard-compliant tags.

Try this with one of your problematic files:

1.
Make any change to the tag of the file in Mp3/Tag Studio, and save it. Then try if it works any better.

2.
If it still won't work, try the "Remove junk data before first frame" repair option on it. Then try if it works any better.

3.
If it still won't work you can send it to me, together with another sample file which does work in your WMP9, and I can take a little look at it.

I wish I’d stated clearly earlier that I don’t think that Tag Studio is the cause of this issue.  I think it’s a WMP issue.  My Creative Zen Xtra plays the files also.

I tried what you suggested but it didn’t correct the issue.  The strange thing is that the files with problem are random. I’m talking about files that I’ve ripped and converted and tagged myself.  So a whole album has been processed in the same way, yet only certain files won’t play in WMP9!
I’m going to try the obvious thing and play them on a different PC in WMP9 and see how they are.

Hello!
I have a huge mp3 collection and I would VERY much like to repair vbr headers RECURSIVELY. I have read that it can be done indirectly with the "direct rename files" tool... but I fear that it will crash, as I have a total of 17823 files in all the subdirs. That would leave the files mp3ts processed until crash in one folder and I would have trouble putting them back in their folders then... I would really appreciate it if you would add recursive vbr header fixing in NEAR future. I understand why it is dangerous to do other repair functions recursively... If that will not happen, I would appreciate if you would tell me which version of mp3ts did have the "include subdirs" function by repair tools and where I can get it. (I really want to fix those headers!!! :agree: )
