+---Topic: Mass String Editing/ Replace in File Name started by Bob Fergusson

hi,

Don't think you can do this currently (somebody tell me if you can!)
I want to be able to pick a directory or group of files and remove or replace any string that exists across all those file names (not tags)

example - if I have a bunch of files that are like this:
01-titleofsong_192_lame_presetstandart.mp3
I want to, on a mass basis remove _192_lame_presetstandart and replace it with nothing or with something else. like HQ or something. For example, I would want to do this before using mass set tags from files names.

Currently I use a program called OTRrenamer to do this  - its designe to be used with Old Time Radio shows and has lots of OTR specific fundtions, but I just use it for renaming the files.

I would be great if this could be incorporated into MP3tag studio.

Thanks,

Bob

Of course it's possible. :)

Use the "Direct rename files" tool, with the following templates:

Expected:
<TrackNr>-<Title>_<TRASH>.mp3

Output:
<TrackNr>-<Title>WhateverYouWantHere.mp3

Bam, done. :)

hi,

I didn't quite describe the file name properly - they are like this:
30-dancing_in_the_street_192_lame_presetstandart.mp3
08-all_the_young_dudes_192_lame_presetstandart.mp3
so the problem is the titles have _in them and they could be 1 hyphen up to 4 hypens, and the part I want to delete also has hyphens. So I can't do them in a mass basis because they are all the same in legnth-format.

So..that why I like to be able to just add a string to delete (as in message above.

Make sense?

Thanks,

Bob

Again, if there is a way i'd like to try it

Ok, then why didn't you say so. ;)

Here's how you do:

Use the "Direct rename files" tool, with the following templates:

Expected:
<Title>.mp3

Output:
<Title>.mp3

Activate the "Case fix and replace" option, and go into its settings. Go to the "Substring replacements" tab and add any number of strings you want to delete, and set all of their replacement target strings to empty.

Bam, done. :)
