Quote (Magnus Brading @ Sep. 13 2002,14:05) | I have a few concerns about such a forum:
.
* When there are several forums that in some cases seem suitable for the same kind of questions (in this case the general support forum and this new suggested forum), people might become confused, and discouraged to post at all since they are afraid that they might be posting in "the wrong forum". That is of course not good either.
People might then conclude that the board has very low activity, and don't even bother posting, or coming back, since they don't expect too many people to see their posts anyway. That's not good.
Anyway, |
Quote | * There might not be enough people, except me, interested in answering the questions in that forum. Even though these types of questions are completely ok to ask in the general support forum right now, a separate forum for it might encourage people to "ask before they think" to a higher degree, where it would be too time consuming for me to answer all these questions myself. If many questions in that forum then would go unanswered, people will stop asking, and be more likely to think that this message board sucks just in general too. Not good |
yes I see exactely what you mean What Im thinking of is a place where people could go to check about a particular task they wanted doing and if it wasnt there maybe ask. Maybe people could offer to post tasks that they know how to do. For example the one you told me about with moving all my files with no genre to another folder and then after editing undo ing it. I would like to move that post or maybe copy it and give it a tilte like how to blah blah. So in the end we could actually use it as a kind of database forum of common and not so common taks.

Yes I agree but you dont have that many forums really. I think the most important thing would be to name the forum correctely so its clear that this is for particular tasks and nothing else. I d like to be able to see people posting just out of helpful ness. maybe we could start a challenge. Asking people if they can do a particular task and then seeing what people come up with. Its been interesting already seeing different ways of doing thing by various members.
Just a wild idea there.
Quote | I have set up such a forum as a test now. I'll give it a chance, but if it receives too few posts, or apparently results in any of the other negative effects described above, I might very well have to remove it again? Ok? |
